Rogness: Good choice for commissioner
Published Monday, September 8, 2008
I am writing this letter to endorse my longtime friend, Lee Rogness, for Otter Tail County Commissioner, District 5.
While serving as pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church in the 1980s, I was privileged to have Lee as a member of our board of elders; part of the time as chairman.
Lee's business acumen is all but legendary. He owned and operated Interstate Equipment for 38 years, purchasing the business when he was 23 years of age. Many times as I passed Interstate Equipment, I said to myself, "How does Lee do it in this time of a struggling ag
economy?"
Beyond his business management experience, Lee has given much to this community and area through serving on numerous boards: Lutheran Brethren Homes; United Way; Ag Advisory Committee for School District 544; Minnesota/South Dakota Equipment Dealers Association; and OtterTail Ag Ethanol Corporation. Numerous other credits could be added to this list.
Before sitting down to write this endorsement letter, I asked Lee, “Why are you running for County Commissioner?"
His answer had two parts: 1. "Several business and civic leaders have urged me to run"; and 2. "I see this as another way to give back to this community which has given so much to my family and me."
I urge County Commissioner District 5 voters to support Lee Rogness in the all-important primary election on Sept. 9 and in the general election in November.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by goingfishing (anonymous) on September 8, 2008 at 3:46 p.m. (Suggest removal)
John, you're making it sound like Lee owned/owns Interstate all by himself, but he is simply a part owner.

Lee Rogness is a very good business person who has always given back to the community. He has been active throughout his entire career on many committees but mostly provides support behind the scenes.
Lee will be a strong advocate for our county doing the right thing for its residents. He places a strong emphasis on county economic development which will help all communities in Otter Tail county. By leveraging the strengths of our region we should be able to attract more new jobs by having all communities work together.
I have watched Lee through the years operate their business to the highest standards. I know he will conduct his business with the county to those same high standards.
I urge the residents of district 5 to vote for Lee Rogness. He will work hard for us.
