Ballots set in primary

Rogness, Lindquist are top vote-getters for county board

Voters on Tuesday, in the primary election, selected two finalists for county commission races in Districts 3 and 5. On Nov. 4 voters will select either John Lindquist or Tom Lee to represent District 3. Competing for the District 5 seat will be Lee Rogness and Jim Ayres.

Lindquist, of rural Dalton, was the top vote getter among three candidates competing for the District 3 post being vacated by the retiring Dennis Mosher. Lindquist amassed 69 percent of the votes.

“The results were beyond my wildest dreams,” Lindquist said. “Calling people and going door to door, in my estimation, was a big factor. I look forward to meeting more with District 3 residents in the next two months, prior to the general election.”

Final results showed Lindquist with 827 votes, Lee with 230 tallies and Rick Gronner with 144 votes.

Lee, of rural Elizabeth, said he was very pleased with Tuesday’s results.

“I ran against two very well known opponents (Lindquist and Gronner) and now it’s off to November,” he said. “I appreciate the support given me Tuesday.”

District 3 includes several townships in southwestern Otter Tail County, a section of southeastern Fergus Falls and the towns of Battle Lake, Dalton, Rothsay and Underwood.

In District 5, which includes most of Fergus Falls, Rogness led the field of four candidates with 446 votes. Ayres, who will face Rogness in the general election, had 287 votes. In third place was W. Rick Wilson with 127 votes and Tedd Steenbock tallied 101 votes.

“Residents in District 5 told me they wanted to see more people with business experience on the county board, and that’s what we emphasized,” said Rogness, who for many years operated a farm equipment business with his brothers. “I’m appreciative of the support given me Tuesday.”

Ayres said this morning that he met with as many constituents as possible prior to the primary election, listening to their concerns.

“I’ll continue to meet with people, in the weeks prior to Nov. 4,” he said. “I especially enjoy the one-on-one contacts.”

Pointing to his previous work with USDA, Ayres said he understands the workings of county government and the challenges facing Otter Tail County.

The District 5 post is being vacated by the retiring Robert Block.

Doug Huebsch and Douglas Ackling, who both live in the Perham area, were the only candidates to file for the District 1 post that is being vacated by county board chairperson Sydney Nelson. They will face each other in the Nov. 4 general election.

The other two commissioners, not up for reelection this year, are Roger Froemming of Parkers Prairie and Everett Erickson of rural Pelican Rapids.

Jim Ayres came to our home and I have to say he was one of the most sincere individuals I have met in a while. He said he was concerned mostly about enviromental issues in Otter Tail county and being stewards to the land. Being great with business is certainly important but we also need to preserve our enviroment. We need more poeple and ideas like this locally. Jim Ayres has my vote.

I didn't know if people would appreciate if I were to go around and knock on their doors to discuss the upcoming election and issues I am hoping to tackle.
in addition to preserving the environment for future generations, I think it's important to preserve our architectural history as well.
definantly a delicate balancing act to accomplish both.
I would like to hear more from Jim Ayers about his ideas.
do you know if he has a website?

thanks,
Jamie Cooper

Jim Ayres has a variety of experience and qualifications as listed on his brochure and in recent articles. I believe his experience with the USDA-NRCS for over 30 yrs, his administrative assistance to 14 counties, and his ideas and values to strive to protect and preserve our soil and water resources are only a few reasons as to why he should be strongly considered for the County Commissioner position for District 5.

I also want to thank Mr. Ayres for going door to door himself to discuss issues with the community in person, rather than having others do the dirty work for him. Good luck to you, Jim Ayres. You also have my vote.

theweasel,
aside from not liking a music video I appeared in, why is it again you don't like me?

Rogness is the next Commissioner from District 5. I don't want someone like Ayres who has worked for the government for 30+ years representing me in government. I want someone independent of government, not dependent on government making decisions that will influence me.

Mr Ayres is a very sweet and kind person. There should be no hesitation about his abilities. Also, I know that Lee Rogness is well liked. As far as I am concerned... we win either way. Mr. Ayres has my vote though.
