Spilled fries lead to arrest

Published Wednesday, September 10, 2008

A Fergus Falls man has been charged in Otter Tail County District Court with third degree assault and domestic assault after hitting a man with a chain and padlock over spilled french fries. Starmaine C. Hoeper, 18, is in the Otter Tail County Jail after being arrested Sept. 5 in connection with the incident.

Police were called to the parking lot of Radio Shack on College Way in Fergus Falls on Sept. 5 after receiving a report of an assault.

Witnesses at the scene said Hoeper turned violent after a passenger spilled a carton of french fries that had been purchased at McDonalds a few blocks away.

While in the Radio Shack parking lot Hoeper allegedly wrapped his fist in a chain with a padlock and hit the passenger.

When police arrived a blood-covered napkin was being held to the passenger's forehead to stop the bleeding.

The passenger was transported to the hospital where he received eight stitches to close the wound.
