Kampa to join vets office in Fergus Falls

Published Thursday, September 25, 2008

Charlie Kampa, who currently works at the county veterans service office in New York Mills, will move to the vets office in Fergus Falls. This comes about with the promotion of Bernie Gamber to veterans service director, replacing the retired Jourdan Sullivan.

A new person will be hired to replace Gamber who previously held the title of veterans service officer, the same title that Kampa holds. The new hire will work at the vets office in New York Mills.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.

Congrats Charlie! I second that on missing your voice every morning at KBRF. In fact I don't even listen anymore, too boring with no personality.

Thanx to the Journal for the publicity for our office(s) but it's not about me folks, its about Mr. Bernie Gamber (USMC) assuming the duties as Director of Veterans Services for Otter Tail County, Jane Baumgartner, Susan Bolstad and Shari Fresonke rounding out our team. Add to this the van drivers that transport veterans to VA medical facilities in St. Cloud, Mpls & Fargo (we're looking for more if anyone is interested) It will be hard to leave Little Finlandia (NY Mills) I could write volumes about the huge number of veterans here on what we bill as the "East Coast" of this huge County, so many warriors who's friendships I hold in the highest regard, but I truly look forward to serving veterans in the "West Coast" area too, a little closer to my home.
What ever "celebrity" I gained in radio I left behind over 2 years ago now. Serving my fellow veterans' is my calling, and our passion. Life goes on, hope you still listen to Lakes Radio, I sure enjoy the station(s) but please remove me from your "miss you" list and recognize the critical roll my colleagues and I try our very best to perform for those who ensure the Stars and Stripes will forever fly above all other flags.
There is a sign in my office that say: "If you can read this thank a teacher, if you are reading this in english thank a veteran"

Go strong, or don't go at all.

Charlie
