It’s appalling to smear Sarah Palin
Published Tuesday, September 30, 2008
It is appalling that Katie Sasseville, an experienced attorney, who should know to check her facts, should write to you with the vicious lies of a leftist hate blog to smear Governor Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin tried to ban books from a Juneau library, and fire the librarian who refused? The Associated Press says the librarian in question denies this, that it is just a vicious rumor.
Sarah Palin tried to get her former brother-in-law fired from his job as a State trooper? Try this, again reported in the Associated Press, that the (female) Colonel in charge of the State Patrol wrote a letter of reprimand to the trooper in which she stated that an investigation had determined he had tasered his eleven-year-old stepson, consumed beer in his patrol car, and used excessive force against several people in his custody? And that his actions could still result in criminal charges against the trooper?
What about the fired Commissioner of Public Safety In Alaska government, that level of official is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Governor, much as Cabinet members are appointed by Presidents.
When Palin asked this Commissioner to redraw budget plans to reflect her reform priorities, he openly objected and tried to sabotage the budget process. She offered to transfer him to another job of equal stature in another area of State government. He refused and led a public effort against her reform budget effort. She fired him. Good riddance.
As to Sasseville's claim that Palin was successful in replacing science with Creationism, it's just plain false. Even ABC's Charles Gibson, when he interviewed Governor Palin in that very Wasilla public school acknowledges that the closest Sarah Palin came to that was when, as a mother attending a PTA meeting, she asked the Board why Creationism and evolution couldn't be offered equally in the school curricula. If Sasseville cares to check the facts, evolution is still the science taught in Alaska's public school system.
Many of us who have lived here long enough recall a time a few years back when Katie ran for a seat in the Minnesota Senate, challenging then Sen. Cal Larson. She didn't get beat, she got thumped, even though a woman working on her campaign was an employee of The Daily Journal, stacking the coverage in her favor.
I think Katie's vicious smears are envy that a fresh faced, God-fearing, prolife, conservative mother of a large vibrant family has come a lot farther in her political career than Katie ever got in hers.
Sour grapes, Katie.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. These 'lefties' are all blinded to the truth. They can't see past their television screens and therefore believe everything they hear without 'checking facts' on there own.

So that really wasn't Sara Palin doing the interviews on the television? It sure looked like her. The voice sounded like hers. And the idiotic answers were definately hers!Stop with the denial of what your political party has done to this country in such a short period of time! It's a damn shame!! And hopefully the majority of voters have it figured out by November, because it's probably going to take at least a generation to fix, but only if we get the damn repubs out of there!

You have got to be kidding me. Sarah Palin doesn't need any help smearing her name. The woman is a total joke. Her Katie Couric interview proved that. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry watching her fumble her way around answers to questions she clearly doesn't understand and hasn't been "Prepped" for. She cannot be taken seriously and is ridiculously unqualified to be one heartbeat away from being Commander-in-Chief. John McCain's judgement in choosing her is deeply concerning and just shows what a gambler and rash decision-maker he truly is. I'm appalled and offended by the notion that Sarah Palin is being "smeared" because people in the public have the audacity to ask tough questions and expect honest answers. Her record deserves to be scrutinized, just as any other candidate's record would be as candidate for Vice President of the USA. If she can't stand the heat, maybe she needs to get out of the kitchen.

What, are we protecting the little woman now?
I don't beleive that this is smear. It is not anything like the Swift Boat Veterans smear that derailed John Kerry, endorsed of course by John McCain himself.
McCain a Maverick? Hardly. If he was such a maverick, why has Washington DC continued to do "business as usual" all of theese years? Are McCains maverick-efforts that ineffective that DC is still full of crooks and greed?

Also, for what it's worth, the reason Sarah Palin's approval rating in Alaska is so high is because of something called the Permanent Fund Dividend. Basically each man, woman and child in Alaska receives a government check every October worth anywhere from $1500 to $3000. This year it happens to be in the $3000 range due to the high price of oil. So, yes, if my governor mailed me a check for $3000 every year, I'd probably have a high opinion of him/her as well. Other than that, she's nothing but a mooseburger eating, gun toting, book banning, Bible thumping, earmark spending, power hungry, grudge holding empty suit disguised as a pitbull in lipstick.

People really only see the subject from the side that they are on. That is too bad, as this election will have an impact on not only us, but our children, grandchildren and their grandchildren. I urge people to look at the facts. We can not afford to make a mistake this time around. I personally do NOT want a folksy, family woman as a VP, I want an expert - a thoughtful and educated person who will not blindly follow, but will interject useful and well thought through advice. You should "blink", usually that means you are weighing options, applying rational thought and thinking of all angles before acting. It worries me that people are basing their opinions on personal matters, rather than the level expertise the candidate can bring to the White House...

Excellent letter Bill! I can't help but laugh at the tactics used by the left...especially left-leaning women. It kills them that maybe....just maybe....THIS WOMAN, Sarah Palin....may help the Republicans win the presidency!

bornfree, You made the statement that nobody told Palin to be afraid of her god. Actually, God told Moses when he gave him the 10 commandments in Deuteronomy 5:29, "Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!" To say that Sarah is a God-fearing woman....means she respects God and is trying to live her life in obedience to Him.
Also in Proverbs 14:16, "A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless."
God bless!

I am very proud of sugarmama making her comments and being so bold. Palin has morals, she is against abortion, and gay rights, and many other things that we need to have people make a stand on. and quite honestly, we NEED to get our country back to "In God We Trust" we need people with morals..And if it wasn't for Palin, i would not have bothered voting at all.
You keep right on quoting verses from the Bible sugarmama, because quite honestly, I'm sick and tired of people mocking and putting down believers of God. We have rights also. We have the freedom to share our thoughts!!
By the way, just another opinion of mine...It's funny that people make fun of the way Bush talks, that he stammers and doesn't quite know what to say. And when you listen to Obama, He can't speak without stammering and repeating unessesary words. drives me up a wall.

Bev, being a hate monger is not a moral value. Hating people who are gay, who have had an abortion, or aren't Christian is just wrong. It's wrong according to God, it's wrong according to Jesus and it's wrong according to the Bible. Jesus Christ was a community organizer. Pontius Pilate was a Governor. Food for thought...

Well put Bill and sugarmama.
When reading the posts by the lefty socialist. You can just tell they are upset that the Queen of their regime wasn’t chosen. And they seem to have a fear inside and can’t admit to them selves that they have been wrong all a long about conservatism.

I didn't write anything about hate...I don't hate anyone who is gay. and I don't hate people who have had an abortion..BUT I do not think that abortion should be an option. pil, I don't see that I wrote the word hate at all..
and your food for thought comment, I will write: Jesus’ entire ministry was based on His uniqueness as a leader. In fact His ministry was predicated upon His claim to be the “only begotten Son of God” (see. John 3: 18), that He was literally God in the flesh, and that He is the “way, the truth, and the life” (see John 14:6). Hence, the primary focus of Jesus’ ministry was upon Jesus Himself. Jesus focused His message on the Kingdom of Heaven, not on worldly gains, which appears to be the primary role of a “community organizer”

__
These people are going over the top, comparing Obama’s work to the work that Jesus did.
Matthew 24:5 - For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Matthew 24:24 - For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Mark 13:22 - For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

The truth is Sarah Palin is just plain stupid and McCain's choosing her begs the question concerning the soundness of his judgment. Her latest is that people and dinosaurs shared the earth 6000 years ago. She says that she saw a picture of a human footprint within a dinosaur footprint. Of course, it doesn't matter that most scientists say the earth is at least 65 million years old and that the dinosaurs were gone eons before humans made their appearance. She claims she's well read and informed but can't name a news source other than her local newspaper. She may believe in the Abominable Snowman, too.
By the way, what "stand" have Republicans made on abortion? I'm against all abortions except in cases of rape, incest, and if needed to save the mother's life. I've actually voted for Republicans because they talk as if they're going to do something about it, but it's all talk. They controlled Congress for most of the past 20 years. Bush had a Republican Congress and Supreme Court and did NOTHING about abortion. Why? Because they want to keep it as a political wedge to drive between ordinary Americans while they pursue their real agenda: making the extremely rich, richer. Everything Congress did from 2000-2006 was aimed exactly at that priority: fat cat tax cut, attempt to privatize Social Security, do away with a fair estate tax for the sake of the Donald Trumps, etc. NOTHING on abortion whatsoever besides TALK. They take advantage of the extreme naivete out there and go about scamming the average American worker and middle class. Time to wake up and smell the stench.

2-1 Americans blame the current financial crisis on Republicans, and they're right on the nail. Phil Gramm, McCain's bully-boy economic advisor, wrote the deregulatory bill to end all oversight, transparency, and rationality within the lending industry. It led directly to the sub-prime sleaze and ultimately to the devaluation of people's homes and thousands of tragic foreclosures.
The pattern was simple. Tell people desperate to own their own homes that you have a deal for them. It's a sub-prime mortgage that starts off at a rate ordinary people CAN afford (even with the stagnating wages, outsourcing, loss of benefits, burgeoning health costs, and obnoxiously high drug prices under the Bush administration). Nothing is mentioned at closing about the small print that says at a given time the rate will double or even triple. So the stinking lenders wait because they know the time will come when the borrower can't afford payments so they repossess the house and as the song goes, "Do it all over again." What they did not count on was that their overwhelming GREED would inevitably drive over-valued
houses down, down, and down-just as it did the same to farm property that was grossly overvalued during the farm crisis. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO WAKE UP TO THE FACT THAT HUMANS HAVE AS MUCH CAPACITY FOR EVIL AND GREED AS THEY DO FOR GOOD? Otherwise would there be any need for police? Now we rediscover once again after a Great Depression, the S&L Scandal (another deregulation fiasco that McCain was involved in up to his follicles as a charter member of the Keating 5, along with Neil Bush) that there's a crying need for policing in the area of finance, too. By the way, both McCain and Bush escaped prosecution because of who they are and whom they know. YUK! Funny how little we heard about Neil Bush during the last two Presidential elections.

Republicans use religion as an issue, which is un-Christlike to begin with. Of course we all beleie in a God. Of course we have sanctity for the human body, we have a deference to a "greater beleif" than ourselves, we defer to a "God" no matter the form. It is an awful twist of words that the Republican base infers that Democrats arn't religious. As I said, it is un-Christlike.
As a woman who HAS been raped, thirty-some years ago, and I did choose an abortion, I too asked my God to help me through this difficult time of my life. I still today know that I made the right decision. It is wrong for anybody else to make that judgement.
If Republicans don't want government interference, who are they to make the rules for this unfortunate series of events?
And, if ALL of you have a santity for the human body, why arn't more of you taking care of it? Which brings me to Health Care issues. Instead of fat and resentfull, shouldn't we all be working individually to be healthy and happy?
The nasty, personal tone of some of the attacks noted in the editorial boards is telling. I think we all need to be a little more Christ-like.

Sugarmama. Have you ever heard of carbon dating? bornhere is simply correct about the Bible. It's a book of faith, not science. When taken as a book of facts about earth's development, it becomes absurd. It's a book that I dearly love and put great faith in, especially the New Testament. In it Jesus says, "Whatsoever you do to the least of my creatures, that you do also to me." It's Christ's admonishment to do right to my fellow humans, especially the poor, that's one of the greatest reasons I'm a Democrat. Republicans talk all the time about protecting life at conception, which I also believe in except in cases of rape, incest, and the necessity of saving the mother's life, but Republicans do nothing but talk about and politicize the issue of abortion and go about their real agenda: making the rich, richer and the rest of us unemployed. They don't care about life after birth, except the lives of Donald Trump, Ted Turner, etc.

Dear Betterworld, No one commenting on Bill Schultz’s letter to the editor has written that Democrats aren’t religious. I was just gently educating Bornfree on what God-fearing means. My heart goes out to you on the difficult decision you made to have an abortion. I had a pastor once who was adopted and who was a product of rape. His mother too had a difficult decision to make….but she chose life for her baby. You say you know it was the right decision for you….that is probably true….but was it the right decision for your baby? He/she did not get to vote. God was with you at that difficult time in your life….and He is still with you. God bless.

Jerry, your arguments are always so very short because you actually have nothing to say worth our attention. When you suggest that Clinton didn't have b--ls, I have to remind you that it was under W's watch that we were attacked. You're another of those cavemen who think we should elect people whose history resembles the bully in the playground. McCain has actually proposed in his time in the Senate to bomb 8 nations. I don't want his kind of temperament anywhere near the control of nuclear weapons. Even Republicans admit he has a thinly controlled temper.

Wow, what a direction for this conversation to go - her religion, individual republicans religion who will vote for McCain because he chose her as a running mate... the letter was about false claims and qualifications. We need to vote on the issues that a President or Vice President (who could assume the office) actually have direct impact on... like poverty, education, health care, social security, the economy, war and peace, international relations. Who is most qualified to achieve these goals? Who is ready to lead? Look into more than the one or two "hot button" issues like abortion or same-sex marriage... they are not the issues that will lead the country through the reality of what is happening in the world.
Posted by sugarmama (anonymous) on October 1, 2008 at 2:35 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Dear Retired Teacher, The Bible does not discuss the subject of evolution. Rather, its worldview assumes God created the world. The biblical view of creation is not in conflict with science; rather, it is in conflict with any worldview that starts without a creator. The most important aspect of the discussion is not the process of creation, but the origin of creation. The world is not a product of blind chance and probability; God created it. The Bible not only tells us that the world was created by God; more important, it tells us who this God is. It reveals God’s personality, his character, and his plan for his creation. It also reveals God’s deepest desire: to relate to and fellowship with the people he created. God took the ultimate step toward fellowship with us through his historic visit to this planet in the person of his Son Jesus Christ. We can know in a very personal way this God who created the universe. The heavens and the earth are here. We are here. God created all that we see and experience. The book of Genesis begins, “God created the heavens and the earth.” God bless!

You people (republican and democrat) and all of your arguing and god talk make me sick. You all quote from the bible and argue about which candidate is more heavenly or honest or whatever. Why don't you shut up and go plant a flower or help sonmeone in need, or find a way to better your self or your family. I don't believe in god, but I do believe in doing the right thing for people and my family. All you are doing is arguing about which candidate will do a better job of pretending to be a human being, and which one will be LESS corrupt. The answer is neither. They are all politicians, and they all have alternate agendas, I really doubt that alternate agenda is "what can I do to get into heaven".

Dear Fencesitter, I am sorry you do not believe in God. Bill Schulz’s letter to the editor was a rebuttal to Katie Sasseville’s mean-spirited letter. For some people it is important to elect a person who shares the same values. It helps us to have trust in that person. When McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate…it was like he chose “one-of-us”; a neighbor, a person down the street, who we know has the same problems as us. Her life is not perfect, just like us, but she has strong convictions and she has a proven record for standing strong in those convictions. She did not have any great plan to become a politician….but she chose to get involved in her own community by running for a seat on the city council. She had a grassroots campaign and won. Once in office…she was told by the Mayor and another councilman…’You’ll learn quick; just listen to us.’ Well….they did not know how Sarah was wired. She voted the issues “for the betterment of the people”. She made some enemies…but she was not “one of the good ole boys network”. That is the fresh face we NEED in Washington. Maybe some of that can rub off on all the rest of the politicians in office – both Republicans and Democrats.

anamerican. We're all Americans. Go back to YouTube and you will find dozens of videos about Palin's lack of the stuff that ANY candidate for V.P. should possess. Cherry pick all you want, but it's becoming apparent that the majority of Americans understand her failings. Even Republicans as far right as George Will say she hasn't the qualifications. Even Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, an excellent man and decorated Nam hero, says her selection was "an insult to the American people." If you want to point out gaffes, I can point out a dozen by McCain if you wish, such as talking about the "problem of the Iraq-Pakistan border, a border that any 3rd grade teacher of geography can tell DOES NOT EXIST. Go back to YouTube and you'll find the others and have a very tough time finding any on Obama or Biden.
Yes, I dare and have a right to criticize Palin and you have a right to criticize candidates for whom you won't vote. That's what makes a Democracy free. We don't live in Iran or China or North Korea.

1. Sarah Palin's first son, Track Palin, was born in April 1989
2. Sarah Palin was married on August 29, 1988. She eloped.
3. 38 weeks is the typical human pregnancy.
4. 38 weeks before her son's birthday, April 20, 1989, is July 28, 1988 - i.e., that would be the hypothetical day of conception.
5. If this data is correct, that would mean that Sarah Palin eloped four weeks after her son's conception.
speaking of religion and candidates, has anyone else made these connections?
the BIBLICAL Sarah was from Ur in BABYLON
also (Rev 17:1) "the great whore that sitteth upon many waters"
Palin received the nomination in Minnesota which is Dakota Indian for "sky tinted water." The state motto of Minnesota is "Land of 10,000 Lakes."
The area Wasilla is located was called "Benteh" by the Dena'ina Indians, meaning 'among the lakes'.
(Rev 17:2) "and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication."
Oil (which is plentiful in Alaska) can be called the WINE that has made the inhabitants of the earth drunk. Palins husband is an oil man.
(Rev 17:3) "and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns."
Wasilla is derived from the Russian Vasili, from Basil, which is also where the word Basilisk comes from. A basilisk is the mythological King Serpent beast. Wasilla has seven letters and Sarah Palin has ten letters.
(Rev 17:5) "THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."
The mentally challenged (indcluding Down's Syndrome) were called "Abominations of the Earth."
(Rev 17:6) "And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus"
Palin addresses with gusto the troops who are going to war as well as those who have died in Iraq and Afganistan.
(Rev 17:15) The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
The United States of America is a country of many peoples, multitudes, nations (ethnic groups), and tongues.
IS Sarah Palin the foretold WHORE OF BABYLON?

To Metasonics, I am so proud of you….you can add! But your range of thought is a bit distorted. Apostle John the writer of Revelations would be horrified at how you have used the scriptures to justify your warped thinking.
The BIBLICAL Sarah was the mother of a nation and an ancestor of Jesus. She was a woman of faith, the first woman listed in the Hall of Faith in Hebrews 11:11, “It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise.”
In Revelations the destruction of Babylon is mentioned in great detail. The “great prostitute” called Babylon, represents the evil world power…..but to imply that Sarah Palin is the “whore of Babylon” represents someone who does not know his Bible at all. The great prostitute represents the seductiveness of the governmental system that uses immoral means to gain its own pleasure, prosperity, and advantage. In contrast to the prostitute, Christ’s bride, the church, is pure and obedient. The wicked city of Babylon contrasts with the heavenly city of Jerusalem.
Those who worship the beast (ultimately Satan’s way) will ultimately face God’s judgment. Our world values money, power, and pleasure over God’s leadership. To get what the world values, many people deny God and violate Christian principles. Thus they must drink of the wine of God’s anger. This is the prelude to the end times.
Sarah Palin, even as a teenager was not afraid to be different and to hold strong to her convictions. She signed yearbooks with Bible verses and held fast to the New Testament admonition from I Thessalonians 5: 16-18 that said, “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances.” She became the leader of her high school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also was captain of the Wasilla High Basketball team and not only led on the basketball court but at the state tournament in Juneau, she was seen leading her team members to church, the morning following the tournament. This is the kind of leader our country needs in Washington D.C.

Why did the DJ remove the comments from the Beth Monke piece titled, "Religious Background of Candidates Shared"? Looks like biased journalism to me. Very un-American.

It could be that someone that excells in plagerism and cut & paste was getting down right nasty. It was about time that the FFDJ shut that one down. It is biased journalism when they allow this someone to rant about anything and everything. They obviously has a personality disorder of some kind. For Sasseville it is a plain case of envey for many reasons.

Jerry. Your comments show your ignorance. And how shallow you are. Incidentally, you use "Osama Obama" frequently; like that has any basis for further thought than kids calling each other silly names on the playground. A few names come to mind; Fairy Jerry not being the least of them, oh, and then, what if we all started calling Dick (Cheney) what he really is? Your name calling is childish.

betterworld. You still haven't explained why you think that someone with children should not be a vice-president. That is rather sexist and narrow minded. Osama-Obama has children and he even thinks he is qualified to be President. With his background of chumming around with terrorist he would not even be able to get a secret clearence if he were anyone else. Put a beard on Obama and he would look like Osama's brother.

profamily I refer to Mr. Ayers, not Hussein, same difference though. The Liberals will dig into Palins past ie, her elementary school records, but refuse to check out Barry's past. Does Barry's buddy Rev Wright ring a bell? If Barack would have ever tried to enter the military (which he never would, don't have the guts) he would not be able to even get a basic secret clearence because of his background with a terrorist. You want to be profamily but since you support Barack I imagine you okay the letting babies die from botched abortions like Osama/Obama does.

I didn't say he was a terrorist but someone that thinks they should be president should not set around for 20 years listening to someone G-- Damning the USA. I accept that McCain has his problems, just why is it that you Liberals are so narrow minded that you will not admit that Obama has a questionable background? Oh thats right, the media told you he was a good guy so naturally you believed it. "Tell them what they want to here and they shall follow you" is BarryO's theme.

Jeez Jerry, there you guys go again with the lame abortion tactic. By now everyone knows it's just another lame Republican attempt to sway the uncommitted fence sitters to vote their moral conscience and pick the Republican candidates. This happens every election season.
The truth is it's nothing more than a tactic, and ultimately - a lie. And it really is downright patronizing to those who are undecided when you think about it.
Bush used the abortion issue in his campaigns, but never touched the issue in the eight years he's been screwing up everything in this world.
Abortions were illegalized several decades ago, remember? When that happened all the quacks came out of the woodwork and were performing back alley abortions, "botching" up a majority of those operations and causing lots of misery and deaths. Repealing the law was the only humane option. What we all learned from that was this: When we illegalize something, it goes underground, you know, like . . . drugs!
As for Ayers and Wright, they've had and have legitimate gripes and exercised their right to express their feelings about what goes on in this country. They expressed themselves in plain view of those whom preferred to close their eyes and stand idly by as injustices persisted. It seems to me that Wright committed no crimes. Ayers eventually did go that route and was penalized. I don't advocate those Timothy McVeigh-type tactics (violence) myself, but I do have my limits as to how long I'll stand idly by and watch a group destroy the very principles this country stands for, as I'm sure all 'true' Americans do.
But still, this country needs lots of work and time to get it to the utopian example of democracy many of us 'true' Americans strive for. The only way abortions will end is for this world to become a place where that choice is never desired. Force of law is not the answer.
BTW Jerry, what have you done to make this world the utopian paradise no woman would choose not bring a child into?

ed you said you will not stand idly by and let wrong being done, does that include the partial birth abortions that are being done daily. Is this the utopian paradise you speak of or what? At least some people have a moral conscience, that is more than the Pro-abortion crowd that includes what appears to be the next president the chosen one, BarryO!

Moral conscience? You mean like when you sit back and cast a vote that'll create a renewed underground abortion trend where mothers die from infection or loss of blood... again, just as it happened in the 70's? Wow Jerry. That should secure you a place at the right hand of God himself, huh?
If your not proactive in creating a better world then your just dancing frivolously in your head, high-fiving yourself and pretending to be righteous. All you are doing is condemning. Or didn't you get that from my last post?
