Eagle Scout builds lake cabin

Mike Iverson of Fergus Falls Boy Scout Troop 312 celebrated his rank of Eagle Scout status during a court of honor Oct. 4 with family, fellow scouts and friends. He joined Boy Scouts in 2003.

The ceremony was held at the Otter Tail Power community rooms.

His Eagle Scout community service project included three parts. One was to introduce members of Knights of Columbus Council 3112 to the cabin and property owned by the Knights of Columbus at International Falls on Big American Island on Rainy Lake. The cabin is located within the boundary of Voyageurs National Park.

Second was building and putting up bird houses, two benches and hot dog stick stand on the property. The third part was to introduce other troops to what is available at the property at Voyageurs National Park.

Interest and participation with Iverson’s Eagle Scout project came from area troops, including Troops 352 in Breckenridge and Troop 325 in Underwood.

Iverson became a Tenderfoot scout in 2003, reached Second Class and First Class in the Boy Scout program in 2004 and became a Star Scout and Life Scout in 2005. He served as senior patrol leader and assistant patrol leader. Iverson is a recipient of the Paul Bunyan Award.

His scoutmaster is Marv Lanus and Eagle project coordinator was Ben Johnson, representing the Troop 312 scout chartering group, the Knights of Columbus.

Only about two percent of all Boy Scouts attain the rank of Eagle.

“Eagle Scouts such as Mike Iverson, through their projects, bring out teamwork and leadership,” said scout adult volunteer John Schmidt. “They have a willingness to work hard and to help others — reflective of the scout oath and scout law.”
