Kennedy school work taking shape under building surface

Published Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Driving past the future site of the Kennedy Secondary School, you may not notice a dramatic change in the building’s design. That’s because most of the work has taken place underground and inside the building’s walls.

Since the beginning of construction, contractors have been focusing on soft and hard demolition inside the building. Walls have been torn down, wiring has been removed and most items have been cleared, said construction manger Michael Beach.

The other portion of the work has taken place underground.

The pilings, which were purchased from the Minnesota Twin’s stadium construction project, have been inserted as far as 83 feet down into the ground, with various levels of cement slab inserted to provide stability for the building’s framework.

Weather permitting, contractors will begin masonry work on the secondary school’s new gymnasium this week, which is being built near the tennis courts. Although the gymnasium is not likely to be complete before the snow flies, Beach said the gym will take priority as soon as the spring season brings mild weather.

Contractors will work through winter with indoor projects taking priority to avoid spending heating costs for exposed projects.

Must have been a slow news day to have to put an article in the paper that really says nothing

What in the hell is the point of changing the name of the school? What is wrong with the Fergus Falls High School?
