Nornes represents the ‘average’ guy
Published Thursday, October 23, 2008
I had a cup of coffee at the Viking this afternoon with our State Representative, Bud Nornes. I'm not anybody special, don't represent any special interest groups, unless you count a lot of Minnesotans who want to resist the ever-growing cost of government and the endless increases in taxes coming out of St. Paul.
Actually, it isn't unusual to see Bud drop into the Viking, or the Shoreline in Battle Lake, or the Pelican in Pelican Rapids, garages and stores, and church meeting rooms around the county. That's the kind of representative he is for us, always out among the folks to find out our concerns, our needs, how he can make a difference for us in state government.
I have seen local residents drag along acquaintances from the Twin Cities area who need to get help from somebody in the state legislature. But their local representative was unapproachable or hard to contact or didn't return phone calls from constituents.
So, a friend in Fergus Falls told them to come to Fergus Falls on Saturday morning, where they knew Bud would be visiting with the folks at the Viking.
I've been present at the table when a mother from Blaine was introduced to Bud by her friend from Underwood, and Bud helped her by giving the mother direct, unpublished phone numbers for people in the State's Education Department (during Jesse Ventura's term) who could help the mother get the special education assistance she couldn't get from her Twin Cities representative.
But Bud helped her. And he followed up with her to ensure that she finally connected with the right people to help her.
Bud is a man who is always available to listen, and will try to help. He has been there long enough to know the ropes, which doors to knock on, which cages to rattle, when to speak firmly, when to use a little "honey" to get what his constituents need.
He deserves to be re-elected by the people of this district whom he has served so faithfully and well.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by pilsnerurquel (anonymous) on October 23, 2008 at 3:58 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Both of our candidates for 10A are "average guys". Bud Nornes is no more average than Greg Stumbo. What's the point of this letter?

I guess if the average guy owned radio stations and has been a State Representative.
he's just an average Joe the plumber with near 250k a year and no license?
hey Bud, remember when my mother was asking you about health care reform last fall? and you publicly ridiculed her and portrayed her as a nutjob?, don't worry, she won't anymore, she died this spring, and your state agencies seized every asset she had to pay for it.
sure maybe you don't call that death tax, but it is sad to see an entire life's accumulations after working as a nurse, gone to pay for cancer and a early death.
I'm voting against you and every Republican because I believe if you found a way for yourself to benefit from my excrement, I believe you would find a way to engineer children of poor families to be born without an anus.

Doesn't he live here? Or in the cities?

I don't know Bud Nornes, but if what Jamie is telling us in his post is true, I don't think he has the compassion of a stone and would definitely not vote for him. Jamie does have one little misconception in his post concerning the "Death Tax." Killing the Death Tax was a Bush and McCain bill in Congress. It would in no real way benefit average Americans to kill the Death Tax. The Death Tax exempts estates up to 2 million dollars already. If that's not enough inheritance to pass onto one's heirs, then they must be slugs and sponges anyhow. Trillions of tax dollars would go down the drain again and we'd just grow a bigger and bigger deficit that SOMEONE SOMETIME is going to have deal with. Killing the Death Tax is for the Paris Hiltons and the Kennedy kids and the Trump offspring. What it would really kill is anything close to the equality of opportunity for which we're supposed to be known. Instead of giving the fat cats' kids a mile head start in the so-called "competitive world," it would put them 100 miles ahead. Gee, I'm so glad these McCain-Bush guys have acted so often in the interest of ordinary Americans that I could gag.

I am looking forward to voting against Bud Nornes. Time to get the old, rich, white guys out of local government. Greg Stumbo has my vote.

MN legislators make far less than 250k. Try about 31K. In addition to that $77 or $96 per diem.

Look at his name "BUD" thats to close to BUDdist,

could probably be a pot smoker also, cause we all know BUD is a word dirrectly associated with marijuana!!!

Bud is nowhere the candidate that Dan Skogen was, and is! Dan is everywhere, all the time, not just during an election year. Bud seizes photo ops. Once I asked Bud what he thought we can and should do about the $7/hour jobs here in Fergus with people struggling; he says "they should be glad to HAVE a job, I know a lot of folks who don't even have a job!" Oh, that was good Bud. Seven dollars an hour for a living wage here in Fergus, no wonder the young power folks leave........
