Christians have a moral obligation
Published Thursday, October 30, 2008
As Christians and citizens of the U.S., we have a moral obligation and duty to learn the positions of candidates on issues, especially the most important ones regarding the right to life.
Also, to familiarize ourselves with the platforms of our political parties. With all the media coverage available, there is little excuse to be uninformed. Thus, the voter should be able to make a proper choice.
I’ve often wondered how a Christian knowingly with a properly formed Christian conscience can support issues or votes for a pro-abortion candidate.
Many of my friends have asked me the same question, especially when we see signs supporting anti-life candidates in the yards of Christian homes. Either they don’t follow their Christian beliefs or they don’t know what these candidates stand for.
How scandalous! Isn’t it ironic or sad when non-Christian brethren know Christian teaching better than those of us in the church?
It’s hard to comprehend how our Christian congressmen and women can support all anti-life legislation in so many cases.
May God have mercy on them — and they know what they do! No wonder our great late Pope John Paul II said, “America is promoting a culture of death.”
You may think I’m a single issue voter — no, I have my priorities in the right order.
Although, there are many very important issues, the right to life is on top of that list; without it nothing else matters!
I leave you with one last quote by Mother Teresa of Calcutta: “Abortion is the greatest threat to peace.”
Think before you cast your vote or you will wake up on November 5th under a socialist government.

That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. Look...the government is no different than running a business other than size. You tell me what your CEO's/presidents religion is, how it affects your job, and what decisions are being made based upon religion. Religion does not have an impact on any decisions other than abortion, in which nothing will change with that anyways. It is a MINOR issue in Government. Religion is ones beliefs, it doesn't impact their business persona. I bet some of you have bosses who are Jewish or Athiast. Stop being judgemental and start understanding other peoples views. They may not be the same, but they are not bad people because of it. I want someone who is a good business person, I could care less if he lets his daughter date at 16, if he played sports, if he likes country, or if he attends church. Who cares...he's a business person. That's what we need!

There's no such thing as a pro-abortion candidate. Pro-choice, yes; but noone likes abortion. Some candidates realize that not everyone is of the same religion and even thou they may personally oppose abortion, consider the right to choose as a liberty granted to all of us and will not force their religious views on the entire population. You want a theocracy, move to Iran. You value your liberty, keep your religion out of my government. I have no problem with someone being pro-life. I respect their religious views on the subject. I do have a problem with someone who thinks it's their right to impose their religious views on me. A major problem.

Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973. Republicans Ford, Reagan, George H.W. Bush and now George W Bush held office for 26 of those years. If a Republican President was going to use his power to overturn Roe v. Wade, don't you think it would have been done during that time? I am tired of one issue politics. I'm a Christian - but I avoid going to my church during an election year because I hate the pamphlets that are passed out telling me how I should vote based on one issue - abortion. I do my own research and make my decision based on that - not on pamphlets mailed to me or handed out in church. I just wish everyone would do that.

The repubs had 6 yrs. to overturn Roe vs Wade, and didn't even attempt it!!! Why would they? It's the only thing they have to get the gullible to vote for them! Everything else they stand for is unchristian! The rich to get richer, the poor to get poorer, and the middle class to dissappear into the poor. Wake up, you anti-abotion people. The bible says there will be deceivers among us (heads of the republican party) They only claim to be christian. Their actions tell us different.

Late term abortion can be banned by any State or by the Federal Government anytime the republicans want to ban it. In doing so, under Roe v Wade, an exception must be included in any such ban. The health or life of the mother. Republicans have done nothing. Thousands of late term babies have been terminated. The republicans have done nothing. Any time, republicans; I've been waiting. I would like to see late term abortions banned under a law that would be constitutional. ie; a law that includes that exception for the mother. Anytime republicans. But, the life of an unborn late term baby is not your agenda republicans. Instead, you want to end a well established liberty right? Well, at least you say you do. Without that controversy, republican; you'd lose what you consider an important election issue. Then where would you be? I'm sure you republican could find another liberty issue to ban. Republican, you're a threat to this country. You're a threat to my liberty. Calling yourself a republican and a christian is an oxymoron. No such thing. The two philosophys are on the opposite end of the spectrum.

What in the world does waking up "under a socialist government" have to do with abortion? Was Karl Marx "pro-abortion" also?
Clearly this article is a good indication of how much actual thought this woman can put into any given topic before needing to move on to the next talking point. Quite frankly, I'm surprised it was socialism and not Islam, but what do I know?

The use of the abortion issue by the GOP to influence votes is a scam.
The GOP now gave themselves permission to start wars with no pretext, inventing an excuse for the US to act against Iraq like Japan did to us at Pearl Harbor, the day that lived in infamy. There were no WMDs. That was a lie.
Why doesnt the Ten commandments count against the preferred candidates of the religious right wing? They seem to pick and choose the way to rouse the true believers. Bachmann clearly lied after her time on national news programs. Plural. She did it for a few days before her debacle. Now Pawlenty says it was "just a gaffe" that M. B. said we have to look into the House whether there are un-american members. That's a lie. A gaffe is a mistake. A team effort to slander the opponents with anti-American, with communist and radical, by Palin, McCain's brother, Bachmann and Dole add up to intentional abuse, and now, lies in the place of real apologies.
War in Iraq cost 100,000 lives and the national treasure of the USA.
Stop trying to use the Bible to win an election. Abortion MUST be the issue? Really? Not, who ruined the USA by lies? Did you actually SEE McCain do FALSE propaganda to lead the USA to war? Its a crime, by the way. He is on video, prior to the Iraq war, telling fibs on Letterman.
If you really make the WHOLE BIble the basis of your evaluations, Tinklenberg is better than Bachmann, and Obama is better than McCain.

Someone wrote: "The repubs had 6 yrs. to overturn Roe vs Wade, and didn't even attempt it!!! Why would they? It's the only thing they have to get the gullible to vote for them! Everything else they stand for is unchristian! "
The GOP had control of both Senate and House for 6 years. They didnt do anything about the issue because they want to rile people up without making real changes. THEY LIKE HAVING THE BOOGEYMAN TO STIR UP the uninformed.
If you love the Constitution, consider supporting Obama and Franken.
Obama says he will restore habeas corpus.
Bachmann, and McCain are against it. Think about the Constitution you loved. We no longer have the right to a speedy trial. We no longer have the right to cross examine witnesses. We no longer even have the right to be charged with a crime. That's real.
Restore habeas corpus. Stand free.

What does the abortion issue have to do with waking up in a socialist government? There is only one socialist in the Senate, the one from Vermont.
That doesnt add up to a socialist government, except as propaganda, like McCain's brother's false statement that all of Northern Virginia is communist.
That isnt really likely, as Northern Virginia includes the CIA, and hundreds of thousands of employees of State Dept and Defense Dept. Its "merely" the right wing's constant attempt (like Bachmann) to paint decent people as "NOT LIKE US".

You people really need to get off of that "pro-abortion" and "anti-life" rhetoric. It is "Pro-Choice" and most people in the US support it. Right winger religious conservatives no longer will rule America and you will wake up to a more sensible America on November 5th in both the legislative and executive branches.
How sad that the religious right in Fergus Falls has to endure the fact that people who they thought would stick their heads in the sand are unwilling to follow the statue quo beliefs of the religious right who refuse to open their eyes and see the world.

Partial birth abortion is called late term abortion and is done ONLY and I repeat ONLY when the fetus is not viable outside the womb and will die shortly after birth. The reason it is done and it is VERY VERY VERY rare, is when the life of the mother is at risk. NO ONE is "pro-abortion" and it is offensive to imply such. A late term abortion is a devastating choice made between the patient and doctor and only when absolutely necessary.

Thank you, Jerry and capitalist. You have both very effectively just demonstrated the level of dialogue we currently have in this country on "hot button" topics such as this. Just keep demonizing anyone who disagrees with you. It's been working wonders so far.
If you don't support the war in Iraq, you're "supporting terrorism" or at the very least you don't "support our troops." If you support a homosexual's right to get married, you're "anti-family." And if you support a woman's right to choose, you're "pro-abortion."
This is one of the biggest reasons that I support Obama. Not because I'm "pro-abortion" or "anti-family" or "don't support our troops" or because I'm "pro-socialism" or "anti-American" or any other label you want to throw on it. It's because I want someone to lead this country who is capable of showing us (and the world) that we, as a people, are better than this kind of behavior. John McCain and Sarah Palin are the epitome of it.

Geez, Jerry. Your sources are so "unbiased." Obama voted against the bans once and that was because the fools also wanted the mother to die rather than save her life: about 10% of abortions happen this way. If lies were crimes. . . . Well, your suffering will soon start when Obama is elected. Then you can find nit pickers to your neocon delight. Just like the uninformed and hunters of imaginary commies did when one of our greatest presidents came to office, FDR. And, YES. the power structure of the Republican Party has fat cat priorities consistently over doing a thing about abortion on demand. And Clinton vetoed the partial bill for the same reason Obama did because the bill wanted to kill the endangered mother rather than do an abortion to save her life. Don't you women feel valued by the Republican Party? Why did they have to stick that clause into that bill? So it would not pass, obviously. See ottothewise post. It says all that need be said about this topic.

Quoting Capitalist: "Do you remember the picture of the naked girl running down the street in Vietnam as the NVA were moving in?"
If you're referring to that widely published picture of that innocent little girl running down the road that had her clothes burned off,
That was the Americans bombing that village. It was the American made napalm that killed and maimed so many thousands of innocent vietnamese people. The NVA didn't have napalm. Get your facts straight. Your USA murdered and maimed two million people over ten fracking years in South and North Vietnam at a cost of near one million American casualties. For What? Cause they could. And cause the fat cats over here were getting rich off that war.

Jerry; "Tired teacher, and your sources are not biased--dah! Why hasen't your un-biased MSM said anything about the effigy of the Palin Lynching and McCain Burning in California? If that were done of Obama we would have every news source available reporting it and there would be rioting in the streets. Un-biased--what a joke!!! You have been brain-washed by the MSM and the NEA!"
That would be a "Hate Crime" IMHO. But, I believe the effigy has to be of a "Minority" to qualify as a hate crime. Won't be long and the "causasian" race will be a minority in this country and that "nut" in California will have to remove it. Can't wait till I'm a minority. That'll be so cool! The republicans will be extinct. The democrats will be considered "conservative" and arguing with the socialists. And, America will be what America was always envisioned to be. A true melting pot for the world to enjoy.

As much as we like to think otherwise, Christianity drives our government. One extreme example at a local level is Michelle "god controls the weather" Bachmann.
There is no separation of church and state.
We have turned into an imperialist country, taking what resources we need from others, taking advantage of less-westernized countries for personal gain and making sure that only we can have the most damaging weapons.

Ok mgdbottled, time to turn your comments on you:
"Republican, you're a threat to this country. You're a threat to my liberty."
Leftist, (and don't tell me you're not), you're a threat to this nation. You're a threat to my liberty.
Now to anarchosyndicalist:
"Many more people have died in the illegal US occupation of Iraq than have died via abortion."
Were you just BORN an idiot?? And yes, I'm calling you an IDIOT. Do you have your Dem talking points sitting there right by you??
mgdbottled:
"That would be a "Hate Crime" IMHO. But, I believe the effigy has to be of a "Minority" to qualify as a hate crime."
Good god, you leftists are INSANE!
Ok, now where? That's right, there IS no where to go. Now, do you two still want to take Nobama's advice and try to get in my FACE?

Earlier this year, while talking about sex education and abortion, the Senator (obama) said the following: "I've got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby." In other words, a pre-born baby is viewed as a form of punishment, and can therefore be murdered in the name of convenience.
Obama has promised that "the first thing I'd do as president" would be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. The FOCA is a devastating piece of legislation that would overturn nearly every local, state, and federal anti-abortion law passed in the last 40 years. In fact, it's so broadly written that legal analysts suggest the bill may prevent institutions and physicians from refusing to provide abortion services by invoking the conscience clause.
How sad.

Jerry; Yes, Vietnam was all democrats. They owned that war. Pres. Johnson was an idiot. What can I say. Pres. Nixon is the one that signed my Draft Notice. He's the one I'm pee'd at. But then, he also ended that war. Funny how that works.

You can listen, and hopefuly learn. Stop gossping about yor neighbors and instead feed the poor, adopt a child, read to the blind, be nice, do good work.

“they (republicans) introduced crack in to big city ghettos”, (see above post)
I would assume then you agree with the Rev Writght when he said, “The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government lied.”

Check this out; Yesterday I got a call from the Coleman campaign, it was a young man asking me questions about Coleman and then he said, "can we count on your vote?" I said absolutely not and here's why...and proceeded to list a half dozen reasons why I wasn't voting for Coleman. The young guy agreed with EVERYTHING I said, and said he was just making these calls becuase he needed the money for a few months......can you beleive it? I agree with that.....NO RELIGION in GOVERNMENT!!!
And let's also realize that McCain has been receiving a federal paycheck for 52 years in a row, month in and month out, never to worry about where the next check was coming from. Isn't it time to let someone else have a turn?? Just like kids....we need to take turns leading....now its the Dems turn. Let's see if they can finally do a good job. They have good ideas, but sometimes those ideas don't quite get to the public. Let's do what we can as citizens to start supporting our government and to start realizing that we can't have the luxuries of the 21st Century without some method of paying for it!! Quit borrowing, start saving, and start taking care of what we have been intrusted to care for in this world.
