Test-drives will benefit schools in Fergus, Pelican
Published Wednesday, November 19, 2008
Donating money to the Fergus Falls and Pelican Rapids school districts will be as easy as taking a test drive this weekend, as Nelson Ford Lincoln Mercury of Fergus Falls takes part in the Drive One 4 UR School event.
For each new Ford taken for a spin, Ford and Nelson will donate $20 to a school program of the driver’s choice.
“I think it’s a wonderful thing and I’m so glad the school, and people in our organization are really enthused about the opportunity to earn this money in such a painless way” said Laurel Nelson, co-owner of Nelson Ford Lincoln Mercury.
Nelson Ford Lincoln Mercury will have ten cars set up to drive 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday Nov. 21 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday Nov. 22.
Ford has allocated $6,000 to give away for the Nelson event, which means some 300 people will have the chance to take part in the fundraising drives.
The fundraiser was created in 2007 to provide an opportunity for communities to support local public schools and promote the year’s new Ford vehicles, Nelson said.
“Everyone is aware that schools are always in need of extra money,” she said.
Organizations up for the funds include all boys and girls extra curricular activities, from athletics to the arts.
Those who are 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license are eligible to take part.
Only one driver per household will have the chance to drive for the $20 donation.
“We just want to make sure that they use it all up, all 300 test drives,” Nelson said. “We can’t get the money without the test drives, so we don’t want to lose it.”

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by jetfire63 (anonymous) on November 19, 2008 at 1:10 p.m. (Suggest removal)
I think it is interesting that a company that is begging the government for a financial bail out is "paying" people to test drive it's products.

LOL - You took the words right outta my mouth. $$ for the schools is great, but how does Ford hand out $$ when they were begging for their share of the $700B bailout package on CNN lastnight????????? It will be interesting to see what GM and Chrysler do as well.
