Taking a closer look
Published Thursday, November 20, 2008
A drug dog searches the engine compartment of a van Wednesday after Otter Tail County deputies made a traffic stop at the intersection of Summit and Friberg Avenues around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Eric Bakke, 28, was arrested for driving after his license was cancelled. The drug dog was on the scene as a matter of routine investigation, authorities said. Bakke’s vehicle was towed to the county impound lot.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by tomanyjudge (anonymous) on November 20, 2008 at 3:41 p.m. (Suggest removal)
Why because his license was cancelled....the drug dog needed to come check out the van? Because everyone with a cancelled license does lots of drugs or what? I have never heard about any of this being a matter of routine, and if it was why is it in the paper?

they are just giving you a "heads up" with the photo.
so that must be the real drug dog and not the retarded one that barks in the car all day long.. and by the way if you don't have a current license and get stopped they will impound your car and in the process they will inventory(search)your vehicle for your protection.

Anyone that thinks that the guys in the picture are "undercover agents" must be smoking crack - you have the K9 officer (not undercover), the dog, the tow-truck driver, the OTC Sheriff, and an unidentifiable person in a red coat. And metasonics has 3 more non-sensical posts to add to his total, now approaching 750 in just 5 months.

Newsworthy?" Maybe not, but doesn't it give you peace of mind to know that there is actually routines like this in place to catch the small percentage of thugs who may actually have the drugs? We don't know the reason this guy lost his license to begin with, and why he continued to drive anyway. It could have had something to do with drugs in the first place. If not, consider it a training exercise. I haven't been stopped in ages, but I certainly hope the drug dog search isn't a new routine with every traffic stop.

Check out Mr Eric Christopher Bakke at www.mncriminals.com - you better have an hour or two to read thru it all. At least 3 DWIs, Open Containers, lots of Driving after Cancellation and No Insurance, Drug Possession, Terroristic Threats, & Escape from Custody. Another fine, upstanding citizen. It's nice to see our local police doing their job.

I agree with Jerry. Better to be over-cautious then ignorant and blind to the big issues. And I can assure you, this is in no way an "under-cover" sting. And as far this being "news", I can remember when a goose crossing the street near the high school was the Journal cover story. People thought it was great! It isn't a large community and not a whole lot happens.
I am just happy to see that a news paper exists for Fergus Falls. It is a commercially decaying area, the paper seems to be the only real sense of community, as a whole. It is sad, Fergus is beautiful and could have a lot to offer. Bring in some more businesses, then perhaps there will be "real news".

That wider angle shot does show an unmarked vehicle, unless perhaps the black dodge was also pulled over. I agree that the zoomed in large photo doesn't give up any covert/undercover stealth M.O.'s of the County.
As for drugs, paranoia, and obsession...Interesting that three consecutive posts were from the same upstanding citizen who lives in or near those shacks on riverside.

A quick check on MNCriminals.com will show that yes indeed, Eric has made a career of driving without a license, insurance, and even proper tags. In September of 2005, he was convicted of a major drug bust with several scheduled substances and Not Small amt of Marij $1500 13-month-sentence and 5 years probation, at that same time "Driving After Deemed Danger to Public Safety". Most of the previous trouble occured in Becker and Clay counties.
Can we get some of that Protection in the Protect and Serve this time around?

The "black dodge" is an unmarked cop car. My brother, who was visiting from Japan, had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with that guy! He was driving too fast, saw the black dodge and thought "not a cop". So he sped up and zoomed right by him. Within seconds, that car was on his tail with "Knight Rider" type red lights in the front zipping back and forth. He actually said it was a "pretty cool sight to see" - even though he was in the wrong. And yes, he did get a ticket! hahaha So, slow down when you see that black dodge!! :-)

Actually, let me change that... "just slow down period, then you won't have to deal with that black dodge!"

meetasonics - please explain why you think these officers are in danger, merely by having their picture in the paper - they are clearly not "undercover".

lookitup, it's spelled Meta Sonics, notice only one "e".
obviously our tax dollars were well spent on your education.
as for why I think these individuals are undercover police?
because I worked with them.
all I'm asking is for this photo which is of no significant use to the story or for informing anyone of anything other than who some of our undercover police are.
it wouldn't be hard to even figure out their height.
believe it or not, there are major drug dealers in this area who sometimes kill people involved with bringing them to justice.

"obviously our tax dollars were well spent on your education" - and how many of your dollars have gone into the local schools, city and county in the past 3 years, Mr Cooper? According to www.ottertailcounty.net, the answer is 0. Yet you still had $1,000 to spend on jeans, and claim to have made millions over the course of your so-called life. The citizens of Fergus Falls are fortunate that you placed dead-last in the Council election.
Posted by metasonics (anonymous) on November 26, 2008 at 9:27 a.m. (Suggest removal)
the citizens of this city aren't being served and I doubt I will live here long enough to see a solution to the water problems many are living with.
lookitup,
I assume you are referring to the fact I am behind on my homeowners taxes, not quite three years but way to stretch the truth as usual.
just as you claimed somehow my personal debts would have became the cities if I had been elected.
I noticed my property taxes are more up to date than the cities or counties or any banks in this city as well as many prominent members of this community.
why do you ignore their far larger tax debts that are more years behind yet attack me and imply I don't pay taxes?
guess what, I pay my taxes and even an extra penalty when they are late.
so really I pay more than my share.
keep being the jerks you are so adept at and wonder why jobs keep leaving.
what a garbage community to attack a man for investing in this city and running for a city council seat.
just because I am coping with a disease and having financial difficulty hasn't put me in a vacuum.
you think banner closing is a big deal, keep it up.
325 people are employed by my girlfriends family locally.
the 193 who voted for me may be the only intelligent lifeforms left here.
at least until they decide life is too short for this Fergus BS and leave too.

"why do you ignore their far larger tax debts that are more years behind yet attack me and imply I don't pay taxes?" - because they are not making endless posts on this forum complaining about how the City is being run - you are. And it's not an implication that you are behind on the taxes - the outstanding debt is over $1,000 - that is a fact, and it is also a fact that you brag about having $1,000 in your pocket to spend for clothing. Yet you had the gall to run for City office - one wonders how many fewer votes you'd have gotten if the voters knew about that hypocritical aspect. It's like applying for a job at a bank when you are $1,000 overdrawn at the same bank - rational people would not do such a thing. You seem to have an opinion on just about everything, Cooper, and like to tell others how the City should be run. Maybe you should take care of your own sandbox.

I had $1000 to spend on jeans before this city bankrupted me.
such a pretentious ass you are!
now get back to work so us welfare mooches got something to mooch!
dumb ass!
slighting me for having an opinion and sharing it?
you do make a good point about being overdrawn and running for a position though.
ever bother to check that out on other candidates?
oh thats right, you only look up facts you want to either exploit or distort.
hmmm? why is Fergus falling apart?
because of morons like you! you've chased away so many financial opportunities for this community with your BS, and even now you have no clue or decency in you.
even now when I am telling you that the family of one of the largest local employers wants me to move out of this city because they are disgusted by the tone of locals like you.
where do you think thats going to end?
how would you advise people who care about you when they ask if continuing to invest in Fergus is worth doing?
give me one good reason why I should argue in favor of this community
all you've done is twist every thing I've said and attacked me for having a disease.
you are a fraud and complete garbage!

my taxes are not behind $1000 by the way. I paid my homeowners taxes this spring and havn't paid the 2nd half yet.
my homeowners taxes are only around $300. a year.
I have no idea what BS you are citing this time, but as usual you are wrong and full of BS again.

Life is full of choices, Cooper. You choose to smoke, in spite of your disease. Over the past 3 years, I'd venture to guess that you've spent well over $1,000 on cigarettes, yet you don't pay your tax bill. Choices. You choose to post endless comments on nearly every topic, yet feign outrage when others point out the inconsistencies in your ramblings. Choices. You choose to blame every problem in your life on other people or a disease. Get over yourself. Everyone has problems. You can call me all the names that you want. I just consider the source.

inconsistencies and ramblings you say?
lol
when you make things up, distort the truth or any of the polite ways of just flat out lying that you engage in,
it doesn't make me or my words inconsistent.
it still is only you making up BS.
plain and simple.
you are a anonymous weaver of lies.
so pathetic your own wife doesn't trust you.
you think I can;t figure out who you are?
noone likes you, even you don't! lay off the drinking for a day or two sometime, start telling the truth and learn the trade you claim.
inheriting money isn't the same, so stick it where only a bottom feeder like you would.
don't worry, Fergus will suck even more when I leave and your wife still won't trust you.

you mean like the stuttering old BS drunk that spells out words like I D I O T.
your poor wife, what do you do to her after everyone at the bar is sick of you and you get slammed up against the wall enough times to leave?
I know they gave me a free drink for putting you in your place last time.
jeez even the wait staff hates you.
who's the bigger idiot?
the fool who hates even himself or the fool who has friends and loved ones?
how much did that trade you claim to work in cost out of Daddys insurance policy?
better yet, why won't anyone hire you?
because even if you could perform decently on a jobsite, you're such an obnoxious person no one wants you around.
at lest I got 193 votes that say otherwise about me.
but I suppose I made that all up too?

so there's 193 ignorant people in your Ward - big deal. I saw you on the video at the candidate forum. What a joke. One-word or one-sentence answers to every question.
Posted by metasonics (anonymous) on November 28, 2008 at 4:28 a.m. (Suggest removal)
I apologize to anyone who is confused by simple "yes, I'm in favor of that" and "no, I'm against that" type of answers.
I thought the reason there were time limits placed on our answers was at least partially so that the answers would be brief and to the point.
I have a blog and I'm sure you already know where.
I prefer writing for longer more in depth answers, it also is helpful to have something in black and white to have proof of what was said, especially with the abundance of persons like "lookitup" who have a tendency to distort and warp what was said.
explain to me how 193 people would go to the polls and vote for someone who had not advertised or spent a penny on influencing voters out of ignorance.
if they were truly ignorant wouldn't they just not have voted for anyone in that race?
if they were ignorant and just randomly voting, wouldn't it stand to reason that the other candidates votes were just as randomly chosen?
in fact aren't you basically suggesting that the voters are idiots and that you don't believe in the democratic process?
you do give off a bit of a Fascist vibe sometimes.
let me guess, we should put the Daddy killer in charge of things.
no need for democracy, we'll just get by like the Caesars and our leaders will need to kill their fathers when they reach the correct age.
that ideology didn't seem to pan out quite so much, well maybe it did for you but,not so well among us civilized folk.

you think the internet is anonymous but you apparently have no understanding of MAC addresses and IP addresses.
unless you have somehow created or acquired some sort of alien/reality warping technology beyond that of the FBI and the internet community, then I know exactly who you are and you are a liar!
bluebird, having wealth in the past before medical and financial problems does not make a person a Tax dodger.
my taxes and other debts were openly publicly discussed in detail this summer when one of the sock puppets thought they could convince voters that my personal finances could in someway become the tax payers if I had been elected.
but don't worry, todays news says our population is continuing to dwindle here, for unknown reasons?
LOL
it's because of you folks.
you chase people away, constant faux moral accusations and judgment, while the reality is one of you killed your parent for insurance money.
you're disgusting!
combine that horrid local trend along with a shrinking job market and very little recreational opportunities.
these things can only create a shrinking population.

Either the 'genious' is going to enlighten us on how he has hacked into secured systems and stolen information, or the voices in his head are giving him the answers he stays up all night wanting to hear. In either case the authorties are certainly tracking and logging the MAC address of the device he uses to access the internet in order to post his threats, hatred, and lies.
The town of Fergus Falls is loosing population due to the increased crime rates of the some of the low-life inhabitants. One only needs to review the County Jail link to see the faces of the ones that have been caught. However just like Cockroaches, for every one you see, there are at least a dozen more hiding nearby.
