Lakes Technology Group, a new technology firm out of Battle Lake, will open Friday. Staff include, from left, Dustin Alton, Mike Haining, Garrett Nelson and owner Jan Eitzen.
Jim and Jan Eitzen were Colorado residents when they first began visiting Otter Tail County.
“We started coming up here vacationing and loved the area,” said Jan Eitzen.
Now the Eitzens are eight-year Clitherall residents and the owners of a new Battle Lake business opening this week. Lakes Technology Group is a technology firm encompassing Town and Country Computers in Wahpeton and a 1,600-square foot store at 106 North Lake Ave. in Battle Lake. Among the company’s products and services are computers, accessories, software, networking and repairs.
Another offering: home theater system design and installation.
“We have theater seating and a big flat screen TV,” Eitzen said, describing a special showroom in Battle Lake, where the company is headquartered.
The Eitzens purchased Town and Country Computers and the Battle Lake property — once a dentist’s office — in September. Lakes Area Development Association (LADA), a nonprofit organization promoting economic development in central Otter Tail County, encouraged the couple to choose Battle Lake, says LADA Executive Director Sean Kruschke.
“Lakes Technology Group is a needed business because they provide services and products that are essential to our community,” not only to current residents, but people considering a move, Kruschke said.
The Eitzens also own a weekly legal newspaper in Colorado.
The couple and their three staff will host grand opening celebrations Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Battle Lake. Visitors to the store can take advantage of coupons and other promotional offers, as well as chances to win giveaways including a Nintendo Wii and iPod Nano.

The Daily Journal is happy to host community conversations about news and life in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. As hosts, we expect guests will show respect for each other. That means we don't threaten or defame each other, and we keep conversations free of personal attacks. Witty is great. Abusive is not. If you think a post violates these standards, don't escalate the situation. Instead, flag the comment to alert us. We'll take action if necessary. It's not hard. This should be a place where people want to read and contribute -- a place for spirited exchanges of opinion. So those who persist with racist, defamatory or abusive postings risk losing the privilege to post at all.Posted by bigsly (anonymous) on November 20, 2008 at 7:14 p.m. (Suggest removal)
