Salvation Army serving dinner

Published Wednesday, November 26, 2008

If the staff at the Salvation Army have it their way this Thanksgiving, they’ll be sure that no one in the area goes without a traditional home cooked meal. “Everyone is welcome, we want people to come out,” said kitchen manager Kathy Hage about this year’s free Thanksgiving dinner. “We want anyone who is hungry to come eat.”

As a matter of fact, the Salvation Army invites anyone — hungry or not — to visit on Thanksgiving Day and to share in a meal, a blessing, and some good company.

In preparation for the big day, staff has been drying bread crumbs for stuffing, collecting supplies and working out final plans. Workers expect to peel some 200 pounds of potatoes, prepare 16 turkeys and make 400 cups of stuffing before the day arrives.

All together 200 meals are being prepared, some of which are being delivered to those who may not be able to make it outside their home on Thanksgiving Day.

Meals include the works, with turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, squash, green beans, stuffing, cranberry relish, pies, rolls, a pistachio desert and punch.

More than just enjoying a meal, Hage hopes people can enjoy the entire experience.

“It’s a chance for people to socialize, meet other people and worship,” she said.

Christian gospel group, “The Blood Washed Band”, will perform in the background throughout the 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. service.

“We try to make it a little bit more of a family atmosphere,” said Salvation Army Captain Mike Parker. “It’s just a nice setting for people to come and be with other people.”

Last year, about 125 people attended the Thanksgiving dinner, which is the largest meal event the Salvation Army hosts during the year.

The Salvation Army in Fergus Falls is located at 622 E Vernon Ave. in Fergus Falls.

Mr L: What part of this did you not understand?
"As a matter of fact, the Salvation Army invites anyone — hungry or not — to visit on Thanksgiving Day and to share in a meal, a blessing, and some good company."

You dont have to be down and out to enjoy a meal.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you Mr Lincoln, for again showing me why I no longer live in the disturbing city of Fergus Falls MN. Mr. Lincoln...do you honestly have nothing better to do than sit in front of your computer and leave negative comments on the Journals web page ? Maybe you should stop by the Salvation Army for a nice warm meal ? But dont forget to drop a few coins in the bucket when you leave

Keep feeding drug addicts and reinforce their bad choices with free hand outs.

Shame on you Mr_Lincoln. I'm guessing you have never done anything constructive or positive in your sad life. These would not be the opinions of your namesake! wookie- surely you realize we are not all like that.
