Maybe the naming of the airport road should be reconsidered. I am not against naming it Einar Mickelson Rd., but I would like to see it named Joe Devorak Rd.
Joe did more to promote aviation and dedicated a lot of his time to getting the Fergus Airport to where it is today. The airfield is named after Mr. Mickelson, why not the road named for someone who promoted aviation, gave flight lessons, flew countless hours of charter flying, spraying and giving airplane rides? Joe Devorak did all this and more. If I were back in Fergus, I'd be at the council meeting promoting Joe's name for the airport road.

The article reads like the money is for lifeguards because after the $$'s are stated it says "the city would still be responsible for beach maintenance,,,". To me it reads the $$'s go to the lifeguards. Maybe the $20.5k is for more than one lifeguard.
And Bucksteel, your suggestion for the Journal to break it down after the meeting is good.

About 15 yrs ago I started playing golf and went to PLGC because it was local. I played once and felt like I was trespassing on holy ground because of the cold treatment I received from the Good-Old-Boys who seem to run the show. I blew it off and went again a week later,,,,,same response. For 10 years I had a memebership at Tipsinah before moving to the East Coast. The people out here are courteous and don't get in your face like at PLGC no matter what your level of golf may be. I doubt it has changed back there. If you got the big bucks and the fancy clubs, you 'belong.'
I say let them pay the bill, they're the ones using it all the time.

Good Luck! We'll be following your progress on-line like we did last year.

If there was a good example of a lake that could contribute to lead poisoning of wildlife it would be Pebble Lake. How many tons, yes tons of lead are in that lake from years of trap shooting? I haven't read about birds, ducks, swans, geese, dogs, cats or even rodents found on the shores of that lake because of lead poisoning. And to top it off, the swimming beach was and is right down the road. Makes you wonder if the City should reconsider dumping money and reopening the beach. I'd be more concerned about lead poisoning of people.

I remember the Razzle Dazzle very well. When we were in Fergus I was in 3 separate skits. The rehersals were the fun part. Learning your lines and taking directions from the director.
I highly recommend calling the Center and getting tickets for you and your families. Go see your friends and/or neighbors having fun on stage just to entertain you.
If we were home from Jersey at that time, we'd be there for sure.

Who's the Reb guy? I'll bet he doesn't even know where NC is on the map. You're right Sumwon, how does a guy in NC know about the Journal web site? He's some local guy posing at a redneck. I'm from Fergus living out on the east coast. I alway read the Journal to keep up with people I know back home. I think I'll go on the Slidell, LA newspaper page and chime in. Give us a break Red, you're no more of a NC resident than I'm one from Hayseed, AR.

Maybe your award-winning journal should research the fines the DNR could/would impose if your vehicle drops through the ice. This would educate the ice fisherman back home to maybe be a bit more careful.

Andy, it's a gamble no matter what time of the year it is when you're driving on ice. If fishermen knew where all the thin area's were, we wouldn't be reading this stuff. Like the article says, you need a plan just in case you go through. My question is; what is the monetary fine for leaving a vehicle at the bottom of a lake in Minnesota?

Is there anyone back in Fergus who could make it to the council meeting to suggest renaming it in honor of Joe? I agree with the other folks posting here. We have to remember that Joe also was also a flight examiner. Which means student pilots and private pilots came to him to get their private pilots license or commercial license.
I salute Mr. Mickelson and giving the ultimate for his country, but Joe spent his entire life promoting the airport. He was always there for the public who needed to go somewhere anytime 24/7. I think Joe should be honored with the road leading to the airport complex. As I said in my first post, if I were in Fergus, I would be there. But being out east makes it impossible at this time. Could anyone find the time to attend the meeting?
On Airport road would honor FF war hero
