Wow, this reminds me a lot of a book I read and a movie I saw called "Into the Wild". This "In the Wild" movie is obviously a ripoff........ Oh wait, this is the Journal, nevermind.

Wind energy is great. Once we can all agree that we're OK with not having AC power on days when the wind isn't blowing, or blowing hard enough, then I'm all for it. That means summer and winter. The truth is we need these coal plants as the basis for the bulk of our power use. Wind is a cute additive, but will never be able to supply the bulk of our needs. It has it's place. But it's not a one or the other situation. We have to have the major power plants and it sounds like the new one will be cleaner than most currently are.

Fewer kids continue to be the problem. In this town there has been way more dollars invested in Senior housing, nursing homes, etc., than will ever be spent on schools\education. That should tell us something. We have a lower student population as a percentage of the school district general population than almost anywhere in the state. Our school problems are due to the makeup of Fergus as an aging, retirement community. Sadly, it will probably continue this way.

ffprofessor. So dollars don't matter in education? All I'm saying is for a very long time this community has said education matters, as long as we're at the very bottom rung in terms of funding. I never said throw money at the problem. Watch the kids of FF continue to slip away to those neighboring "extravagant and frivolous" school buildings in nearby towns. But, feel good that you saved $11.

For a long time FF has been at the bottom in terms of dollar support for local education. Years and years. The increase we voted on doesn't even get us up close to middle of the pack as far as communities and schools our size. Plain and simple, this is an old, dieing town that doesn't care if the schools go away. Last one out, turn out the lights.

You are all to be congratulated for staying on topic. Well done Fergus Falls

Before everyone starts feeling sorry for the poor officers of Otter Tail Corp, take a look at- http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=OTTR -Every time the OTTR stock takes a jump it interesting to see the "insiders" cashing in. Look at the former President John Mac. In the last couple of weeks he cashed in $900,000 dollars worth of stock that OTTR had "awarded" him. Same for Lauris, well over a million dollars worth cashed in after the stock had shot up. Even CEO John E got into the act. Tough to get by on the $2.2 million compensation he made last year I suppose. Good thing OTP is going for a rate increase. I'm sure these insiders thank you for your support.
On Otter Tail Corp. earnings fall short
