If you've never been bit by an animal, you don't know the terror of it. All animals should be leashed no matter where they are - even locked doors aren't enough of a barrier sometimes. Two girls were almost killed in Mpls when a dog rushed through a "locked" screen door - they jumped up on the hood of a car and the dog came right after them. One was hospitalized for weeks and traumatized for years. Mail persons cannot take the time to "befriend" every dog on their route. If you want your mail, your animals have to be securely leashed so the mail person can do their job. Otherwise - get your mail at a PO Box.

Well - this is just another example of "the end of the world as we know it"....a few bad apples spoiling the barrel for others.
For years now, the intellectuals have been asking what is causing America to go down the tubes? There have been many thesis on this subject....I for one just think stealing is stealing. These people do not care about anyone else but themselves.....they do not have a conscience to think how much work/care/money it takes to produce a crop to be sold at food stands. If they did, they wouldn't steal the food - they would pay for it like others.
Furthermore, if they are down on their luck, there are food shelves that will help - so that is no excuse.

We had a family reunion at Thumper last July - we loved it! They were very accommodating to us. However - it would have been nice to have the lake accessible right "out front" like the Alex and Brainerd resorts - we had to pack up and drive down 3 miles to the wayside rest (which was well kept)and have our games/pictures/catered meal. Although the lake was many steps down from the wayside, and the older folks couldn't get down there to sit by it - we did have a great view!
Just heard that Carlson Companies is laying off hundreds of workers too - they are in the same business. If they can't make a go of it - then a smaller venue like Thumper surely would have a tough time.
I hope things can be worked out as the facility is wonderful.

While I applaud the fact that farmers are getting more money for their efforts - what about the claims from many experts that ethanol uses more resources to produce than other sources of fuel?
Growing corn to feed to the ethanol plants reduces the amount used to feed people doesn't it? Because of this fact and other things happening in the world, food prices have skyrocketed in the past few months.
I wish there was an easy answer to the fuel/food dilema - but I think we need to at least ask the question.

There are many teachers in my family. While I do not like a raise in taxes - how else are we going to pay for qualified teachers? The seasoned and more educated teachers earn the most pay - By "cutting the highest paid first" you take away the element of experience from the classrooms. A good district has a combination of young inexperienced teachers AND seasoned teachers. It's like anything else - if consumers want more services - they have to pay more. If you want good teachers to stay in your district, you have to pay them a decent wage.

Could it just be that small businesses are having a tough time making ends meet - with Home Depot and other big box stores around? This guy was just protecting his business by asking some hard questions to "the man"......perhaps the way he went about it wasn't proper but if you don't yell at times nobody listens! Sometimes things aren't fair no matter what you do........but you cannot give up either. The city should let the true facts come out and people can decide for themselves.

Where were James' parents? If this was going on for months - someone should have informed them that their son was harassing others - was all the harassing done in just this one classroom, or was this a pattern for James throughout school and his life?

I agree! Nice to have a restaurant right across from the lake - always have had good food and a nice atmosphere.
We'll be there when it opens!

I agree with thethinker - what ever happened to talking to each other - ? Or is that a form of harassment too? If the 3rd person busybody reported it - why didn't the "victim" just say she wasn't bothered by the remark? That could have stopped it right there....if Mr Rogers had a "clean" record going for him - he shouldn't have gotten fired in my opinion.

Back in the 60's when THE SPOT was a bar/pool hall - my father (who was a respected local farmer and not inebriated) used to meet his farmer friends for a beer and a quick game of snooker pool. I was 12 and enjoyed sitting at the bar drinking a grape pop and eating a hamburger with fried onions! The guys had a great time and loved to have a place where they could always find a buddy to shoot a game with and enjoy a few minutes of time off. Very good memories and I don't remember it smelling of urine - maybe cigarette smoke but that went along with the whole ambiance of a 60's bar........
