I think it is interesting that a company that is begging the government for a financial bail out is "paying" people to test drive it's products.

I wonder why they need more countys to join when OtterTail county is shipping garbage to North Dakota? Seems that we have a surplus of garbage.

The County Board did the right thing they listened to the majority of the residents not a few, remember "a government of the people, by the people, for the people.

Gee I would have thought "Junkyards" would be #1 the way Otter Tail County is attacking them!

On Junk yard ordinance is actually a junk ordinance

realitychk people are not panicking when they read it to a "T". If this Ordinance is passed as the draft is written then the County will enforce it to a "T". If you would have attened the informational meetings even Mr. Hanan stated that the wording of the draft is poor and could affect way more people than intended. He also commented on what was not intended to be included, however those items are not excluded either. It appears that the Commissioners and Mr. Hanan agree that further discussion and redrafting of the proposed Ordinance are necessary as it is overly broad and very vague. It was also stated the the State of Minnesota had proposed similar legisation and dropped it, was it too expensive to enforce?, was it impossible to enforce? or was it found that the basis for it was flawed? as for me I say LIVE FREE

It's not a JUNK Car meeting it's far wider reaching than that!

First of all it is not a junk yard law! It is an Ordinance that will turn the greatest share of farms and home steads in Otter Tail County into Junk Yards. The following definition is taken directly from the proposed Ordinance

"Junk means old or scrap hazard signs, copper, brass, rope, rags, batteries, paper,
synthetic or organic scrap, rubber, rubber debris, dismantled or wrecked
automobiles, farm machinery, construction machinery, mobile homes, campers,
travel trailers, recreational vehicles, boats, personal watercraft, iron, steel and
other scrap ferrous or non-ferrous materials, appliances, electronic, wire spools,
wood and other building materials and parts of buildings any or all of which may
be used or intended to be used for purposes other than their original intended
purpose in their original form and condition."

This pretty much covers everything that anybody owns and has stored on their land. This is all being done under the guise of Health, Safety, and Wellfare. Beacuse the State of Minnesota's definintion states that a nuisance extends beyond the property lines. If having any or all of the aboved mentioned materials around a farm stead was so dangerous wouldn't we hear of more people being injured or kill by these items. The proponets of this Ordinace talk of rodents that make it sound like a scene out of the seventies movie "BEN" I personally have never seen a rat or the traces of a rat in any cars stored on my property, Instead what I do see is Gold Finches, House Finches, Wrens, Blue Birds, Chipmunks, Squrriels, Bunny Rabbits, and abundant other wild life.

Just say NO to the Junk Yard Ordinance by calling your County Commissioner before the 15th of July.

On Law isn’t necessary

I have just finished reading the draft of the "The Junkyard Ordinance Of Otter Tail County" This draft as written if take verbatum could affect every landowner in Otter Tail county, farmers, businesses, private citizens, even the county itself. The wording "any or all of which may be used or intended to be used for purposes other than their original intended purpose in their orginal form and condition" can cover everything from whiskey barrels used as planters to semi trailers converted to storage sheds to wood wagon wheels used as decorations. The draft as written does not exempt vehicles or anything stored inside a building or out of public view. I encourge everyone to go to the county website and read the draft of the ordinance and see hoe it could affect you personally.

On Junk car concerns expressed

My collector cars are not all trashy, they are not parked all over the front yard in the middle of the city, they are parked in neat rows in a rural part of the county and can barely be seen from the township road. They are not a nusiance and do not harbor rodents. I have respect for my neighbors and they should have respect for me and my hobbies. Today it is a "junk car ordinance" tomorrow it will be the color of your house, or the type of flowers you can plant, or banning solar powered clothes dryers. What the county is trying to do is take away personal freedoms, if I need to get rid of my "collector cars" than all farm machinery that occupies and area greater that the area the size of five cars has to go as well. Reminds me of ordinances that were proposed up around the FM area and down around St. Cloud where people move in to rural areas and then wanted the counties to pass ordinances banning livestock so their children would not see the natural reproduction cycle in progress. Yes it is taking away personal freedoms the freedoms that make America great.
