I really dont think that the go carts or any of the various things they drive should be raced around as they do now. I saw a guy tip over a big motorcycle onto the sidewalk when they used to use them in the same manner as the go carts in parades. I am scared to death of them & I take myself and my kids a ways back because you just dont know & with the speeds they get up to its is just a horrible accident waiting to happen as this story shows.

This doesnt come into play with this story, but parents also need to KEEP THEIR KIDS IN CHECK during parades & not let them run free into the street. I was in a unit in the Erhard parade & we were told that on the first corner of the parade route we could not throw candy out because the kids were being allowed to run towards the units even after the parents had been told to keep them back.

Does anyone from State Bank still have money that they have to "pay it forward" with?---this would be a good cause to contribute to I think!

Why are people posting and comparing this dogs actions to human actions---it's a flippin dog with ANIMAL instincts. So your saying that if a human were to bite the mailman vs a dog biting the mailman its the same?? I didnt know that animals had the ability to understand the concept of consequenses for their actions like humans do. Can they sit with their paw to their forehead & think "hmm I dont think that man sticking paper in that little box is going to harm us so I will just wave & say hi" NO--he thinks I dont like the uniform he's wearing---ATTACK!!! I realize that people get attached to their pets and you can use the "person in uniform" defense, which may be true, but then what are you going to do when a child, during halloween, comes dressed up as a police officer and the animal goes balistic? We are the humans--we need to know what your pets "triggers" are and then do something to either train them to deal with it or make sure they are not exposed to them.

Yippy little ankle biters will do just that bite your ankles and in this cockers case he preferred knees. It can be any dog that shows agression, my daughter was bit by a german shepard mutt when she was little. Its just the strength of the dogs that you mentioned intheknow. I witnessed two pit bulls being walked & another dog walked by on the street & this large grown man was being pulled by these dogs in an attempt to get at the other dog. When the dogs could not get at the passer-bys dog, they turned on the owner. Very scary to witness. I agree with what other people have said in that half the problem is with irresponsible owners & the dogs being seen as some sort of a status symbol...very sad.

I understand what you are saying otterfan, but if there was another driver available on the bus, I am sure he would have been driving. I would think it would be up to the bus company as to how many drivers they schedule for a trip based upon the amount of driving time. I belive the only one who knew he was tired was the other driver as everyone on the bus was sleeping so they would not have know he was tired & swerving. Sad sad event that has changed how a parent feels when they put their child on a bus.

I feel your pain PeterJennen, I think I will have about $50 left after I pay the loan back that I had to take out to pay our taxes---just enough to put gas in my tank--but on the "glass half full side", at least I wont have to have to pay on a loan for a year!! Sorry Prowler that you and your six figure income didnt qualify for the rebate, rest assured that there will be a ton of sympathy sent your way from the rest of us "pathetic lazy working class grasshoppers" who are supporting our families on less than $150,000 a year!!

As a wife of a fireman (not from FF)I know that the guys/gals always appreciate an "atta-boy". They drop everything when that pager goes off, not matter if your in church, in bed, at birthday parties (explain to a 2yr old why daddy ran out the door during his party), at weddings (my husband had his pager on at our wedding). Their level of commitment is remarkable and I dont think people always understand that every firemen, police officer, EMT has a family that is waiting at home for their daddy, mommy, spouse to come home safely after each and every call. If you every have the opportunity to say thank you to one of these people irregardless if you have ever needed them or not--just say "I appreciate what you do" it will mean a lot.

I live in anything but a white town bubble & I have critically examined my beliefs. My beliefs are this: when every governmental agency, school, & business has to tip toe around on egg shells so that we dont hurt someones feelings, offend someone or accidentially say something that could be twisted in a descriminatory manner in lawyers office there is a problem. My daughter was being bullied by someone that the school had many many complaints against but they happened to be a different ethnic persuasion than white. I spent 4 months hearing "we have to take precautions in situations like these" while my child was being spit on, kicked, pushed, hit--they were too afraid to lay the smack down on a situation that warranted it because they were too afraid of being accused of discriminating against someone & being sued. My husband & I finally had to file assault charges to get it to stop--so if someone wants to whine about discrimination go ahead because my daughter has been on that end of it & has received absolutely no assistance or aid, so dont think that people that have immigrated here recently are the only ones that are being discriminated against.

Are we the only culture that is not allowed to "enforce" our culture as you would like to put it? What do you thing the tolerance would be for an american woman wearing a mini skirt and bikini top in a country where it is custom for women to be covered from head to toe? Do you think they would "enforce" their culture in that situation? I dont believe it should be labeled as intolerance or racism--it is called aclimating to the surroundings that you have CHOSEN to live in. A person can still have pride in the roots that they have & their culture, but if you have left your culture to join another, irregardless of the circumstances, you have to respect that other culture, their beliefs, language & customs. It, in my mind, all boils down to respect and as Americans it sometimes feel as though we cannot ask for respect for our culture & beliefs or we are accused of being racist, & intolerant.

It is beyond me why anyone would not see a problem with other languages being available for everyday situations. For example what good is it to have your written drivers test in a different language? When was the last time you saw a stop sign that read "arret", "detener", "istaajin"??? Doesnt it just take some common sense that if everything around you is in english that you should be speaking english for safety sake if for nothing else?? Do you want to hear something even more rediculous--there are interpreters that go along for the driving part of the licensing exam to interpret what the instructor is saying to the person taking the behind the wheel. I can only hope that someone is not crossing the street and they have to depend on helpy helperton in the back seat spitting out the translation for "watch out for that person crossing the street" before they get schmucked!!! Come on people when are we going to start standing up for ourselves as a country?
