Newsworthy?" Maybe not, but doesn't it give you peace of mind to know that there is actually routines like this in place to catch the small percentage of thugs who may actually have the drugs? We don't know the reason this guy lost his license to begin with, and why he continued to drive anyway. It could have had something to do with drugs in the first place. If not, consider it a training exercise. I haven't been stopped in ages, but I certainly hope the drug dog search isn't a new routine with every traffic stop.

Thank you for the textbook definition, rodentboy. You have just reinforced my point. It is very easy to "read up on" a condition but until you have experienced it in your family, you can't know how a mentally ill person can react. Your definition also doesn't include the drowning of your own children, or many, many other malicious acts we have all heard about on the news committed by those struggling with bipolar disease. The bottom line here is that we are never going to get the full story out of the newspaper and we are in no position to judge either this mother or her daughter.

It's too bad, FAF, that your parents have not taught you any better to be respectful towards your elders. Maybe you and your sister, both too old for the trick-or-treating, imo, should find something more productive to do with your Halloween nights from now on. It may be your choice to go trick or treating, but it is every homeowner's choice whether to answer the door and dole out candy to such snots. As for the costumes you describe, I must not shop where you do.

takemyradio is right. Bipolar is real. ADHD is real. If properly diagnosed and treated, a person can lead a pretty normal life. If not, no amount of parenting skills, spanking, or modeling is going to magically "fix" them. I'm not saying that criminal behavior should be excused in any way, but those of you who have not lived the life of a mentally ill person or parented one have not a clue.

Perhaps you ought to leave the trick-or-treating to your little sister and your campaign buttons at home. I would venture to guess that the reason you were not "acknowledged" (aka - given candy) is that 16 is far too old to be trick-or-treating. The nasty looks were not about your buttons, they were in disgust. I'd have ignored you too, if you had held out your bag at my doorstep, and given your younger sibling double her share.

Sorry, whostruth, you're right. I don't know of the situation you speak of. I was merely stating my opinion of the drug problem as a whole. You can only educate those who choose to be educated. It's the parents and those in authority who choose to remain in denial who area a huge part of the problem.

In all reality, many of the drug problems we are seeing start right in the home, either due to parents' carelesness with their own prescription drugs, or use of illegal ones. The parents you really need to reach are not the type who are going to show up at a meeting at the risk of being attacked by a drug-sniffing police dog. Sorry if you were ratted out or something, whostruth, but if this community doesn't start taking its drug problem seriously, it's not going to be a pleasant place to live anymore.

Yes, we got along just fine without cell phones for years. However, in this day and age, I'd rather my child had a cell phone in his pocket just in case a classmate had a gun in his. That doesn't mean I'd condone texting in class, or any other use against school policy. I'd just want to know that my kid would have the ability to call me or the authorities in the case of an emergency of any kind.

Thank you for giving us an update on this family's story. When we don't hear "the rest of the story", it's easy to assume that just because there are no fatalities, all is well. God bless this little girl as she recovers and may she find strength in her faith despite her circumstances. Yes, I said God Bless her.

Oh, AmyO, you had to have gone back quite a ways to find that "quote". That entire rant was just that - a threat, albeit an empty one. What Jeff meant to say was that there would be no more comments on stories that would affect advertising or offend anyone with enough money to bribe thier way out of it. Shoot, with the right amount, of money or status, you can even keep your story from being printed at all. Sorry, Yippe Skipe, or whateverr you call yourself, today it's your turn.
