Cooper, I think you have demonstrated on many occasions your ignorance. Talk about not knowing the facts.
If the public wants answers why don't you as bloggers ask this newspaper to actually do a factual article with a phone call to Mr. Anderson. Doesn't anybody realize that they don't want to report anything factual but let you knuckleheads beat yourselves into a frenzy speculating about what could happen.
One phone call and interview would provide the answers you are looking for. I realize it would not be very exciting and then you would have to go back and play video games. Although that is probably better then spending 23 hours a day thinking about what you would write today.
I hear CDG is moving forward on the college. The Mn historical representative and National Parks representative from Washington DC was here to review the project. As well as their architect and engineering firm to make sure they comply with historical guidelines in remodeling.
They have 2 groups traveling to China next month. Both colleges are making significant investments to send up to 8 people each to visit with and discuss the curriculum with the chinese universities. Hearing this is certainly makes me feel like this is getting very close.
I cannot believe there would be any change in their opinion on having a slasher movie in their dormitory. I also cannot believe there would be any change in the city councils stance. Why in the world is Mark Seivert promoting a movie knowing this is not the wishes of the council. Jean Bowman follows his advice and he is wrong. Both Bowman and Mark Seivert are not good for Fergus Falls and need to resign.

Lee Rogness is a very good business person who has always given back to the community. He has been active throughout his entire career on many committees but mostly provides support behind the scenes.
Lee will be a strong advocate for our county doing the right thing for its residents. He places a strong emphasis on county economic development which will help all communities in Otter Tail county. By leveraging the strengths of our region we should be able to attract more new jobs by having all communities work together.
I have watched Lee through the years operate their business to the highest standards. I know he will conduct his business with the county to those same high standards.
I urge the residents of district 5 to vote for Lee Rogness. He will work hard for us.

If you people would take the time to watch the city council meeting. You will never hear a statement that the chinese universities had any input in the CDG decision.
Jamie Cooper, your comments are way out of line and should be removed. To be so ignorant that those things happen only shows that you are in no way qualified to represent anybody.
The CDG group stated consistently that they do not want a movie that portrays the future college campus in a negative light.
Nobody knows how negative they were going to be in portraying the care provided at the RTC. It was suggested by Kiefer the Peg Access film person that the film features a MN insane asylum. There is only one in the state. Even if it was filmed in another location they still intend to portray Fergus Falls negatively so why not let them do it here. Given choices like that I applaud the council for making a responsible decision.

What is wrong with the high school. Earlier referendums presented sighted high water and other deficiencies only to find out that after further tests none of those issues existed. The thought that a building is a throw away is just crazy. Some of the greatest universities in the world have excellent older buildings and they embrace them. Education is not about buildings but the teachers and students. To think we can improve education because you build a new building does not stand up and Fergus Falls building project was all about Statutory Operating Debt. The district was in effect bankrupt and with the referendum they refinanced.
The RTC can and will be refurbished into a university and the residents of Fergus Falls will not be left holding the bag. Anybody that invests millions will have investors and financial institutions involved and it will never go back to the city under any circumstance.
The comment that they are protecting the general public is nothing more then political posturing. No investment group will ever allow any provision in a contract that would allow the city to take it back. No financial institution would ever lend money unless they are in first position to protect their loan.
"What if we ask the Chinese if they'd like to become joint developers in building a new world class learning center? We already have the property. "
Where have you been? This is exactly what the situation is today. The Chinese universities are partnering with area colleges to build a world class learning center. This isn't going to get done by any city or government. It takes a group like CGD to think big and devote tons of time and money to develop a big idea.
I just hope our small minded city managers and city council give them the time to complete their task. Plus be smart enough to recognize that a horror film in the dormitories is not a selling point for students to attend.
Nobody thinks this is important but when you send your college student to a town that you are not familiar with. You will research that community and find out about the movie.
Maybe the only people that see the movie are potential students and parents but that is not the commercial I want them to see about our community and this college.

In the RTC executive summary put together by the state of MN. It reads
The focus of this report is to determine the feasibility for reuse of all or part of the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center (FFRTC). The FFRTC is located on State Highway 297 north of Fir Street in Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County, Minnesota.
The “Kirkbride” Building is the visual center of the"campus", consisting of the administration building flanked by the connected four-story wings. The “Kirkbride,” built between 1888 and 1907, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in June 1986, and the other major supporting, early 20th Century buildings are probably also eligible for the National Register.
Much of the Kirkbride and many of the remaining "campus" buildings are either underutilized or vacant.
This study was requested by the Minnesota Department of Human Services to determine how best to address the continuing, yet much smaller, programmatic health service needs of the region, either on or off the present campus.
I guess the state of MN has always considered it a campus. Once again all you have to do is read the information that is already available.
As stated before it is well known the development group has said publicly that they are working wlth Universities both in China and our region. Chinese Universities and local investors is where the money comes from. This is well known and has been for many months and that certainly does not sound like blood soaks, sweat shop money to me. It sounds like the education revolution that is happening all over the world. As you may have heard. The world is truly flat and all countries are competing on a level playing field.
What Wilson said or how he phrased a statement or question does not change the facts. It would seem to me that Mr. Wilson knows more about the status of the project then he lets on. With him running for county commissioner he is playing both sides of the fence not wishing to appear to be on one side or another. It takes leadership to look at a short term project or a long term project that could be a large economic engine for our region. I guess his decision will be one that will define how he will manage the counties business which is far more complex and a much larger budget.

"doesn’t think the city should be controlled by “some guy who’s throwing money from some genocide, slaving-owning country.”
I don't think the city is being controlled by anybody. Maybe they don't think this movie is preserving the reputation of the RTC. Maybe they don't think this movie is worth moving forward with compared to redevelopment of the rtc into a university.
I think the group was meeting with universities in China and it has been well documented that there will be a group of colleges and univeristies involved in the redevelopment of the RTC.
Not exactly the correct way of starting your campaign blaming a entire race of hard working citizens for something Chairman Mao did over 30 years ago. He did die in 1976 and China has been opening up their society ever since.
This is the wrong message to be sending to anybody who might be willing to invest in our community. Your small minded thinking only shows your ignorance and I would not be surprised that letters like yours causes the foreign universities to rethink whether this is the right town to send their students.
This also sends the wrong message to the area colleges that are willing to expand there curriculum in our community and send professors to this campus.
Once again if you listened to the interviews and read the articles the group is forming partnerships not selling out the campus.

Sure sounds like you are screaming when you write. Why not put it on paper and make a song.
I don't know where you think I am involved with anybody's signitures. I believe that is the friends of the kirkbride that have people sign to save the building and not have it torn down.
The group of investors and consortium of colleges was talked about at the banquet and on the radio interviews. It has been reported in the Fargo Forum, the Grand Forks Harold, Dickinson Newspaper. I have heard it as various service clubs so it has never been a secret what there plan has been.
I work just like most folks and have not had the opportunity to travel. I just read the entire articles and listen carefully to what is said by the group not selective hearing to hear what does not fit your personal prejudices.
I don't communicate with the council and share your frustrations with their lack of action on all kinds of issues. Just like I am sure I won't support your effort to become a council member. I still feel you are unbalanced and not fit to represent anybody.
I do applaud your generosity to help people who are in need and your sincerity to make the world a better place. I absolutely cannot understand how you think I will gain anything financially from any deal. We just don't agree on a movie project at this location with this genre. It is inappropriate for the city to consider a movie project that could negatively impact the progress on a large economic project for your region.
All these comments about speech writers, hidden agendas seem rather silly compared to common sense. I will continue to add my two sense and continue to follow the progress of the rtc hoping we can someday save the building and have a college
This is what is important for the long run and this is what the most people are hoping for in this region.

I see where the University of British Columbia allows films to be shot. They require $2500 a day fee and 5 million in insurance.
POLICY FOR FILMING ON THE UBC CAMPUS
PURPOSE
To provide a comprehensive film liaison policy and service so that space and facilities on the UBC campus can be used by external media production organizations as film locations without disruption or cost to the university.
OBJECTIVES
To provide a service that takes into account the complex requirements of production companies in utilizing film locations, the physical resources of the university that might be suitable for their requirements, and the interests of university students and staff.
To minimize disruption of normal university activities.
To assist non-commercial production agencies and public broadcasting institutions in creating educational and public interest programs.
To provide and control general access to the university exterior locations and to provide limited access to interior locations for commercial production companies producing feature films, commercials, still photography and general entertainment programs.
To recover all costs of the film liaison service and provide financial compensation to occupants of buildings where interior filming is undertaken.
"To preserve the reputation and public image of the University."
"The producer is encouraged to involve students from the UBC Film Program as observers while filming on campus. "
For productions that do not involve university events and activities, every effort should be made to maintain the "anonymity" of the university, including promotion and credits; the university, however, may require that it be identified if it feels this would be in its interest.
This makes sense because they have UBC Film Program and they encourage the use of students to learn their craft.
They want to preserve the universities reputation and anonymity of the university.
This is the same concerns that the city should look at. Does it preserve the reputation of the city and RTC. Will they maintain anonymity of the location so it does not create a bad reputation of the future college location.

At no time has there ever been any discussion about selling the rtc to the chinese. I believe it has been stated that there is a group of investors and a consortium of colleges involved in this project.
Jamie Cooper I would be concerned if you had signed my petition for anything. You seem rather unbalanced and unfit to serve in any office. You rant and rave about anything that pops into your head and cannot seem to keep a coherent thought within one post.

This paper is run by total idiots. Maybe this editorial board should look across the desk and ask the question. Why don't we do a article and interview the group ourselves. I believe that is your job, to provide the facts. Pick up the phone and ask the right questions and you will find the project is moving along.
I hope the few people that subscribe to this rag ask themselves the same question. Why do I subscribe to this piece of **** paper when they don't do any reporting.
