More peas please

After work trips to St. Paul and Crookston this week (four hellish days out of town) I arrived back home this evening and fed my daughter frozen edamame and frozen peas. She also ate the sad-looking lone banana in our house which might have been better suited to banana bread.

Yes ma’am, not only did I feed her directly from the freezer, I also stuck her in front of the TV and let her watch consecutive episodes of the Backyardigans and Wonder Pets while she munched on her veggies and I popped the cork on a good cabernet.

Go ahead, nominate me for Mother-of-the-year.

Frankly, everyone was happy. Maria even marched around the kitchen singing a little ditty about bananas, peas and juice…

Personally, I really like the flavor of organic frozen peas and edamame (that you can pick up at The Market or at Meadow Farm Foods), although eating them while still frozen really never occurred to me until I popped a few in my mouth before stirring them into a curry dish I was making. I think I threw a few over to my daughter (who loves to “help” in the kitchen) and there you have it.

(We even had a pea incident which is well-documented below.)

So (as I raise my glass) here’s to no more work travel, and to a promising week of cooking! Stay tuned…

Frozen peas were always one of my son's favorites. He actually requested them!
