The nutritionist: The Good and the Bad

After meeting with a nutritionist, she had some good things to say. One might assume that it would be obvious what a nutritionist would say -- eat more carrots, lay off the chocolate donuts. However, what she recommended was both good and bad news for me in terms of how I should change my lifestyle.

The good:
-- It's OK that I have a mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack. If it helps me get through the day, she said, then I should have one. However, it should be something like whole wheat crackers and cheese, and not a convenience store donut or a vending machine candy bar.
-- My basic daily food plans aren't bad, provided I stick to them.
-- One primary recommendation is to eat a whole grain cereal and more protein for breakfast. That won't be a problem.

The bad:
-- Laying off the fast food will be difficult. I'll have to plan out my meals, and that won't be easy.
-- Laying off the butter will be difficult. We like butter in my house.
-- Laying off the alcohol will be difficult. We like alcohol in my house.

What it really came down to was that I need to plan more. That is easier than it sounds. But we're going to give it a shot.
