Up and under

Underwood’s Logan Nelson goes up for a layup in Tuesday’s game against Ashby.

UNDERWOOD — A slow start put the hosting Underwood boys’ basketball behind the eight-ball as Little Eight Conference foe Ashby Arrows took home a 59-41 victory Tuesday.

The Arrows controlled the game in the first half as they built a 28-13 lead. The Rockets would find their offensive rhythm in the second half, but Ashby would match them shot for shot to hold off the surge.

“We started off way to slow tonight and couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end in the first half,” Rockets head coach Evan Meece said. “Our intensity was not where it needed to be and Ashby took advantage of that.  Our second half was much stronger and we need to build off of that intensity moving forward.”

Leading the Rockets in scoring were Krosby Aasness (16) and Winston Heifort (11). Ashby was led by Jacob Cook with 21 points, while teammates Noah Johnson (12) and Hunter Norby (11) were also in double figures.

The Rockets will look to get in the win column as they welcome in Brandon-Evansville for a 7:15 p.m. LEC tilt Thursday.

The Arrows will return home to take on another LEC opponent in Rothsay at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
