The Shimmer + Chic Bridal Show at the Perham Lakeside Golf Course was the perfect place for area couples to learn more about wedding vendors in the area. With a variety of booths, a runway show and multiple giveaways, Saturday’s event was full of valuable information.
In its second year, the Shimmer + Chic Bridal Show is hosted by the local wedding guide magazine, Shimmer + Chic. “We decided to coordinate the show after we launched our first Shimmer + Chic magazine in the Fall of 2017,” Jodi Guck, with the magazine, said. “Shimmer + Chic is dedicated to promoting and networking with local vendors.” Thinking of bridal trends, Guck said that after two years of doing the show, she has noticed that there the couple’s are much more hands-on today. This year’s show featured caterers, bakeries, photographers, stylists and venues. Approximately 120 people, not including the vendors, attended.
Guck’s favorite part of the show is all of the samples to try from the vendors. “Who doesn’t love cake pops, cupcakes, and beer! As vendor, networking and seeing what others are doing is awesome. There are so many talented people in the lakes area,” Guck said. A local bride, Paige Weber, was one of the lucky ones at the show Saturday as she won 50 dollars to use at Perham Printing. “My favorite part of the expo was that they had a variety of vendors… photographers, venues, cake makers/decorators, DJ’s,” Weber said. “I also liked that they had the style show to give brides an idea of different kinds of dresses for them self, bridesmaids, flowers girls. As well as suites/tuxedo and ring bearer attire.”
Putting together an event of this size can come with difficulties, but Guck and the rest of the Shimmer + Chic team didn’t come across many challenges. “I really can’t think of any. We have a great group that helps out and somehow everything comes together,” Guck said. “Josh at Lakeside Golf and Event Center was more than helpful with all last minute changes on the floor plan and setting up for the runway. Everything meshes together and turns out great. Now if we could just the weather to cooperate.”
One of the main goals for the event is to provide information to area couples that is helpful to them in their wedding planning. Weber was able to get more ideas to help fill in some of the missing pieces in her wedding planning. “Yes, as a bride it was helpful even though I already had my venue/caterer, hair and makeup, and a thought on a photographer before going to the event,” Weber said. “Going to the event today gave me ideas on colors and photos that could be taken or ideas, as well as the cost difference between photographers and DJ’s.”
With many wedding shows held around the state, Shimmer + Chic wanted to be able to show off their own area vendors. “Perham is a tourist destination,” Guck said. “We felt that it was important for the small-town local vendors to have a place to show off their work. We love to see the small town businesses thrive.” Reflecting on how the event went, Guck said, “Overall, it went great. I can thank Lakeside Event Center or Now and Forever enough for all they did. Without out those 2, the bridal show couldn’t have happened. They both put in long hours. I think every year it will grow and more people will attend.”
