The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has reported that an inmate at the Otter Tail County jail has died while in custody. A 28-year-old female was found unresponsive at 12:20 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday. Live-saving efforts were performed by corrections staff, law enforcement and Ringdahl Ambulance staff. They were unable to resuscitate the inmate and she was pronounced deceased.

An autopsy was conducted by the Otter Tail County coroner, and identified the deceased as Lavuya Jade Baker, of Wadena. The results of the autopsy are still pending further lab results. Baker was the sole occupant of the cell at the time of the incident. She was discovered by correctional staff during a routine wellness check. The investigation is ongoing.
