Charter Spectrum customers in Fergus Falls experienced an outage of their internet, cable and phone services Tuesday, including both private households and businesses. “I can confirm a problem occurred as changes were made during the overnight maintenance window. Teams worked as quickly as possible to restore services and we apologize for the inconvenience,” said Kimberly Noetzel, senior communications manager for Spectrum for the Fergus Falls area. The outage lasted about 12 hours from around midnight until shortly after noon.
Fergus Falls businesses like Caribou Coffee, The Daily Journal and Cafe 116 experienced the outage. While credit cards could still be processed, customers at Caribou could not use gift cards or check-in with their Perks accounts.
Residents seeking a place to use internet could go to the library or the YMCA, neither of which had issues with phone or internet. M State Fergus Falls and Kennedy Secondary School also didn’t experience any outages, allowing students and teachers to continue with their day as normal.
Customers who called Spectrum support were given an automated message stating that there was an outage in Fergus Falls due to a damaged fiber optic cable. Representatives from Spectrum would not say how or if a cable was damaged or how many customers lost service.
