While the Fergus Falls football team will take the field in search of a homecoming win tonight, there will be others out in the stands that will be looking to help pick up a victory in a different way. Lake Region Healthcare Foundation will be looking to aid in the fight against cancer as they teamed with Love Your Melon to sell beanies at the game.

The Otters football team will be hosting their “Tackle Cancer” night tonight and the foundation will be selling beanies as a fundraiser.

“Lake Region Healthcare Foundation worked with the custom program at Love Your Melon to collaborate and design our own line of custom beanies to promote and fundraise for our local cancer center here in Fergus Falls and to support the Love Your Melon initiative,” Laura Gervais, foundation coordinator said.

According to their website, Love Your Melon is an apparel brand dedicated to giving a hat to every child battling cancer as well as supporting the fight against pediatric cancer. Fifty percent of profits are given to nonprofit partners to fund children’s cancer research and family support.

The foundation has partnered with the hospital gift shop, local hair salons: 715 Hot Heads, Salon Eclips, Attitudes, and the Fergus Falls High School activities office to support the cause. There will be two types of designs for the beanies with the cuffed style selling for $30, while the pom style will be $40.

This will not be the only stop for the foundation as they will also hold events at the Underwood homecoming football game Friday, Oct. 4, and the M State volleyball “Dig Pink” game on Friday, Oct. 25.

Proceeds from the sale will support Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Care and Research Center to purchase new chemo chairs and to support Love Your Melon’s initiative to fight against pediatric cancer.

If you are unable to attend one of the events and you are interested in supporting the cause and purchasing a beanie, Gervais stated that you can call the foundation at 218-736-8498 or email foundation@lrhc.org.
