I’m lovin’ it:  The new McDonald’s restaurant in Fergus Falls is located at the same location as the former fast food franchise but there are a number of interesting and practical differences.

Forty years after the first McDonald’s restaurant opened in Fergus Falls a new home for the Golden Arches is set to open.

The present owners, Glen and Sandy Cook and Lincoln and Jody Kalenberg will be holding a Grand Opening for their 21st Century McDonald’s on Black Friday in Fergus Falls.

The Kalenbergs have lived in Fergus Falls for nearly 21 years. The Cooks reside near Pequot Lakes, a town north of Brainerd. Between their two home bases the couples serve up McDonald’s fast food to customers in 16 communities.

To run their Fergus Falls restaurant they will be shooting for 70 employees working three different shifts. The restaurant will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week with serving continuing until midnight on Fridays.

Once demolition of their new seven-figure restaurant in Fergus Falls began it took only in 115 days for ribbon-cutting day to arrive.

The new restaurant will be much more user friendly with customers able to self-order and pay for their food kiosks inside the restaurant.

“Technology has made things way easier to use,” Kalenberg said. 

It will also have a McCafe where many different kinds of hot beverages can be ordered. 

“The biggest thing is the decor, the comfort for our customers,” Kalenberg said.

One of the outdoor features the new McDonald’s will offer its customers will be a larger parking lot on the north side of the building.

In moving the location of the new restaurant south on the property they own on College Way, the owners have eliminated what used to be a logjam of drive-thru traffic during peak serving times. 

McDonald’s will be open for business on Black Friday at 7 a.m.
