ST. PAUL – State Rep. Jordan Rasmusson, R-Fergus Falls, has earned a 2021 Energy Efficiency Rising Star Award for his efforts to deliver affordable, reliable energy to Minnesotans.
The award was issued by the Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) “to recognize outstanding work in innovating and improving cost-effective energy efficiency opportunities in Minnesota.” The group specifically credited Rasmusson’s successful efforts to bring Energy Conservation and Optimization (ECO) Act legislation into enactment as a member of the conference committee which prepared it for legislative approval.
“The ECO Act makes our homes more comfortable and efficient, helps our businesses save energy and money, and was supported locally by both Otter Tail Power and Lake Region Electric Cooperative,” Rasmusson said. “I am proud to have played a role in shaping this legislation to work for Otter Tail County residents.”
Rasmusson said the ECO Act gives utilities more flexibility to recognize and respond to emerging technologies and consumer behaviors and demands. The CEE indicates utility programs that encouraged the adoption of technologies like LED lighting and Energy Star-rated appliances have provided more than $6 billion in net benefits to the state and supported local jobs throughout the state.
“We are seeing a technological boom in the field of energy, and we need to make sure Minnesota is able to capitalize on innovations,” Rasmusson said. “The market-driven advancements in clean energy production taking place just across our border in North Dakota are prime examples. I will continue to work on public policy that produces affordable, reliable energy for Minnesotans.”
