Cyndy Rasmussen Frerichs, 68, a resident of Edina, passed away from complications from juvenile diabetes on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, with her family by her side.
Cyndy was born on October 14, 1951, in Fergus Falls, to Sidney and Clarice (née Rian) Rasmussen. She was baptized and confirmed at Hedemarken Lutheran Church in Carlisle Township and grew up on the family’s nearby farm. In keeping with the family tradition, she loved horses and even had a pet pig she affectionately named, “Pepper.” On her ninth birthday, she received a personal letter from President Dwight D. Eisenhower wishing her well as they shared the same birthday.
Cyndy was a 1969 graduate of Fergus Falls High School with dreams to pursue a career in fashion and design. She was often featured in The Fergus Falls Daily Journal for her success in 4-H sewing competitions. She attended the University of Minnesota graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in related art and design.
Shortly after graduation, she married Craig Donald Frerichs on August 26, 1976, at Hedemarken. The two lived in Arden Hills, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Neenah, Wisconsin, and Edina. During that time, they had two children; Ryder Randall and Morgan Leigh.
Cyndy was a gifted artist with celebrated artwork for both Trend Enterprises and Current, Inc. She is known for partnering with 3M to create the popular “Stinky Stickers” scratch and sniff stickers and had her artwork featured on the popular children’s program “Sesame Street.”
An active member of her community, Cyndy belonged to the St. Paul chapter of Women of Design, the Minneapolis Sewing Guild, and the Christ Presbyterian Church group “Moms of Teens.” She is remembered for her generous, loving heart, her infectious laugh, and her strong faith.
Cyndy is survived by her two children, Ryder Frerichs of St. Petersburg, Florida and Morgan Frerichs of Edina; as well as her service dog, Jagger, her mother, Clarice, her two younger siblings, Teresa Rasmussen Trangsrud and Blaine Rasmussen; and numerous extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Sidney. Like her artwork, she is one of a kind, and she will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, Edina.
Service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Mount Olivet Church, Minneapolis.
The Rev. William MacLean will officiate.
Interment will be at Hedemarken Cemetery, Fergus Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family who will make donations in Cyndy’s name to her favorite charities.
