Have you ever been on social media reading through comments and wondering where people are getting the information they are commenting about? It seems to be getting worse, not better!
Here's a good example. This week, an article was published about Ben Franklin closing. The article explains the reasoning for the closure, yet some decide to spout off about Fergus Falls being a dying town, or blaming city officials for the store's closure — they're joking, right?
City officials did not decide to close the store. City officials did not drive the store out of. Read the article, get your facts straight and don't rely on the comments of others for those facts because it's a real possibility that they didn't read the article either and are simply making assumptions.
Additionally, the day before and the same day that the article about the closure posted online there were announcements about new businesses in Fergus Falls. The announcement of new businesses has been steadily on the rise, in fact. How in the world do people equate the opening of many new businesses to a dying community? It makes no sense.
Why is there a need to new housing to be built if this a dying town? (Spoiler alert: there isn't.)
Change is not always bad. Change can be good. Change can be necessary in order to move forward; yet sometimes, even if we don't like, change does come with a measure of "out with the old, in with the new."Â
Fergus Falls in not a dying town. Fergus Falls is an evolving community. Let's put the negativity to rest and focus on how to better our community instead of being a "Negative Nancy" and trying to bring people down.Â
