Reading Tutors Needed
Temporary, part-time library summer reading tutors are needed by the Fergus Falls Public Library. They are accepting applications through March 27, 2018. Part-time reading tutors will lead the Extra Reading at the Library (ERL) summer tutoring program for youth at the temporary Fergus Falls Public Library (1505 Pebble Lake Road, Fergus Falls). The ERL program runs June 4 through July 26 (eight weeks). The hourly pay rate is $15 and they are seeking five or six tutors.
An open house registration night for the ERL program will be held Tuesday, May 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.; and an orientation meeting for tutors will be held prior to the open house. Training hours will also be provided during the month of May.
Fundraiser for Young Readers
The Women’s Leadership Council is planning a very special event to raise funds for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This program provides an age and developmentally appropriate book for children birth to 5 in Otter Tail County. Dolly’s Foundation donates the books and your Women’s Leadership Council pays for the shipping which is only $28 per child, per year. These fantastic books are delivered directly to the homes of the 675 children enrolled. Since 2013, the WLC has provided 27,612 books to our young readers.
A very special event of the evening will also include honoring the community work of John Helland, retired Fergus Falls Educator and literacy champion for our local children. We hope you will want to be a part of this very special ceremony to thank John for all he has done to help children in our community.
The evening includes live jazz music from The Blue Note Combo, a delicious dinner, a silent and live auction and honoring our local community member, John Helland. Tickets are $25 and you many contact United Way at 218-736-5147 or visit us online at http://www.uwotw.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=13 to purchase your tickets.
Jerry Ness is the Fergus Falls School District superintendent.
