As the winter season begins to wind down, several area teams and individuals have already left their mark as they have advanced to state competitions.
The Fergus Falls girls’ hockey team was the first to advance to state competition. After winning their section, the Otters would go on to capture the Class A consolation championship at the Tria Rink at the Treasure Island Center. It was the first time that the girls’ hockey team had advanced to the tournament since 2009.
In swimming and diving, the Otters saw three individuals and three relay teams compete at the Jean K Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota. Divers Caleb Neubauer and Evan Erlandson, and swimmers Tyler Hansen, Sawyer Votava, Tristan Trosvig, Will Pawlowski, Sean Edman and Titus Seland each made it to Saturday’s finals. As a team, the Otters finished 22nd overall as each member delivered a strong performance at the meet.
In bowling, the Fergus Falls girls’ bowling Maroon team advanced to the state tournament. Kaitlyn Krensing, Atlanta Goulet, Morgan West, Morgan Christenson, Alayna Price and Kacey Fredrickson competed against the best teams across the state. The group had an excellent season.
In wrestling, 12 area wrestlers competed in the state individual tournament last week. Fergus Falls’ Dustin Portales, Otter Tail Central’s Cian Beuhler and West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville’s Wyatt Olson finished in the top five in their respective weight classes at the meet.
The winter season is not over yet as a few basketball teams are still vying for the opportunity to represent their school at the state tournament.
We at The Daily Journal commend these student-athletes for representing their schools with integrity and honor.
