The staff and students of Harmony Studios would like to thank Pioneer Care Center for allowing us to use their facilities for our charity fundraiser recital. On Friday, April 5, we were able to host four separate one-hour recitals for the following charities: the Humane Society of Otter Tail County, the food shelf, the Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Center and the Verterans’ Home Greenhouse Project. Over the past few weeks, students have been busy raising money for these various charities by selling pencils and collecting free will donations. Further funds were raised at the recital itself from ticket sales and free will offerings taken during the performances. All four recitals were well attended by the public. Display tables showcased each of the four charities, and were decorated with artwork done by the students. Students played music appropriate to each theme. In the Humane Society recital, animal songs were featured. In the Veterans Home recital students played all patriotic music, and even escorted the flag to the front while the “Star-Spangled Banner” was played. During the food shelf recital, songs referencing food were featured. The recital for the cancer center featured songs with a nature theme. At the end of each recital coffee, lemonade and cookies were served. Students had an opportunity not only to perform, but to contribute to the community as a whole with both their music and their fundraising efforts.
