We are writing to thank Rep. Collin Peterson for taking a stand for world peace.

Sometimes little-known actions can yield big results. Our congressperson, Peterson, has requested that Congress support using trained unarmed civilian protectors to protect civilians in areas prone to violent conflict. Far from a pipe dream, unarmed civilian protectors from groups like Nonviolent Peaceforce, based here in Minnesota, have demonstrated their ability to protect other civilians in some pretty violent places, such as Iraq and South Sudan. They are not only effective, but also affordable. And instead of bringing more weapons to volatile situations, they bring peacebuilding and dialogue. In a time when the world has more refugees than any time in history we need more of these civilian protectors to help prevent violence so people can stay in their homes.
