I’m not sure where I was or what I was doing at the time, but I do remember having a very clear thought go through my mind that we are really lucky to be living as good as we do. Seriously, despite the cold weather we endure from year to year, we have a lot to be thankful for.

The Fergus Falls lakes area is a great place to live and work.  According to bestplaces.net our unemployment rate is a very respectable 3.06% which is lower than the national average. We should also be thankful to live in an area where the average cost of living is 14.50% lower than the national average.

With statistics aside, we still have a lot to be thankful for. Even if our economy was not performing well, we would still be living well. Might be eating hamburgers instead of steak, but still living well. How can we not live well in such a beautiful area? The Fergus Falls lakes area is clean, well kept with friendly people and is a great place to raise a family. We have excellent schools in our communities and one of the finest colleges in the area. We have excellent parks, walking trails, campgrounds and let’s not forget we have over a 1,000 lakes right here in Otter Tail County.

Even with all the material attributes the lakes area has to offer there are more reasons to be thankful. Sometimes we take things for granted like going to the post office and not having to stand in long lines for service. Another one is being able to get your license plates renewed without having to take a number and wait for 30 minutes or longer. We don’t really have a traffic rush hour and I can be home within minutes from work.

Probably the best thing to be thankful for is that our community takes care of itself. Evidence of this is the numerous benefits held to help our fellow citizens.

It’s kind of like the TV show “Cheers” around here in the sense that it’s nice to go to a place where they know your name.
