I was fishing with my friend Shane Gesell recently near Alexandria.  It was on this trip that I remembered why netting the fish that’s on the end of your line can be a good idea.  Actually, it’s a good idea for several reasons.  Following are some of those reasons. 

The Otter Tail County (OTC) 15U season came to a heartbreaking end with an eight-inning loss to Barnesville in the quarterfinals of the state tournament in Henning Saturday.  OTC ended up going 3-1 in the state tournament, outscoring their opponents 33-11. 

The 14U Otters baseball team traveled to Hamm Lake this past weekend to participate in the Minnesota Sports Federation 14U AA state tournament. The Otters went 2-0 in pool play, but lost in bracket play to eventual state champions, the Morris Tigers.

The Pebble Lake Youth Triathlon hosted its seventh annual event Friday at Pebble Lake Beach after last year’s layoff due to COVID mandates. While attendance wasn’t as large as in year’s past with 44 total registered the event still had a strong field of competitors.

The Fergus Falls 12U Otters baseball team traveled to Sartell on July 23 for the MSF State Tournament. The Otters ended their season after losing in the first bracket-play game.

Otter Tail County (OTC) 15U stole the lead late and defeated Holdingford 6-3 on Friday. The game was tied at three with OTC batting in the top of the sixth when Nick Liebold induced Owen Harig to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

The Fergus Falls Hurricanes trounced the Vergas Loons 11-0 in a Sunday night showdown to capture the Countryside League title for a first-round bye in the Region 16C playoffs.

Otter Tail Central (OTC) 15U fell to Fergus Falls 7-6 on Saturday on the final play of the game.  The game was tied at six with Fergus Falls batting in the bottom of the seventh when Alex Ellison singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.

The Fergus Falls 13U Babe Ruth team improved their overall record to 20-2 and won the Lakes Region Babe Ruth Tournament hosted in Breckenridge and earned an opportunity to play in the 13U state Babe Ruth tournament in New York Mills and Henning this coming week.

HENNING — By defeating Alexandria in both games of a doubleheader Thursday at Tony Kawlewski field in Henning, the Otter Tail Central (OTC) 13U Dawgs won their ninth straight game and move to 16-4 overall.  

Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, the Otter Tail Central 15U still held off Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton for a 4-3 victory on Monday. 

The Fergus Falls 10U Otters baseball team traveled to Swanville Sunday for a state qualifier tournament. They came home with the hardware by winning all three games, beating Little Falls 6-5, Long Prairie 5-2 and USA 6-2. 

The Fergus Falls Otters 12U baseball team took third at the Swanville Tournament on Saturday, June 26. The Otters beat Little Falls 5-0, lost to Pierz 12-6 in the semifinals, and beat Upsala Swanville Area 12-2 in the third-place game.

The Otter Tail Central 13U baseball team defeated Detroit Lakes (8-2), Fargo (7-2), and PRBA (12-11) to go 3-0 Saturday to win the Detroit Lakes Round Robin Tournament outright. 

Otter Tail Central advances to 7-4 overall with a conference record of 5-0 behind strong starting pitcher Kale Misegades (5IP) and relief pitcher Drew Evavold (2IP).  Misegades went five innings, struck out nine and gave up three runs on seven hits.

The Fergus Falls 14U baseball team used a 14-run first inning to help propel them to a 21-5 victory over the Frazee Hornets Monday. The Otters had 14 hits, and they also took advantage of 10 Hornet walks and seven fielding errors to amass their runs.
