Underwood single-sport athlete Marc Horikoshi is confident that despite some early-season hiccups for the boys’ basketball team, the fabric that binds them together will be enough to get the Rockets moving in the right direction come playoff time.

PELICAN RAPIDS —The Pelican Rapids boys’ basketball team could not overcome an early deficit as Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal picked up a 57-27 victory Thursday.

PERHAM — The Pelican Rapids girls’ basketball team remained undefeated as they defeated Heart O’Lakes Conference foe Perham 62-39 Thursday.

VERNDALE — The Henning boys’ basketball used a solid defensive effort to cruise past Verndale 67-27 Thursday.

ASHBY — The Rothsay girls’ basketball team beat Little Eight Conference foe Ashby 56-35 Thursday.

WILLMAR — The Fergus Falls wrestling team took on a tough Willmar Cardinals team Thursday, falling 65-10.

BRAINERD — The Fergus Falls gymnastics team traveled Thursday to take on Central Lakes Conference foe Brainerd. The hosting Warriors would gain the upperhand as they defeated the Otters 142.25-128.15.

The Fergus Falls Squirt C hockey team hosted the Frozen Tundra hockey tournament this past weekend at the Community Ice Arena. The tournament consisted of six teams; three teams from Minnesota, two teams from North Dakota and another team from Canada.

BATTLE LAKE — The Battle Lake girls’ basketball team topped the visiting Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley Wolverines 52-33 Tuesday.

BRANDON — The Ashby girls’ basketball team fell behind in the first half and could not recover as the hosting Brandon-Evansville Chargers picked up a 62-44 Little Eight Conference win Monday.

BRECKENRIDGE — In a battle of Heart O’Lakes Conference rivals, the hosting Breckenridge boys’ basketball team upended the Pelican Rapids Vikings 77-74 in overtime Tuesday.

The year 2020 will be a year to celebrate for the Fergus Falls Fish and Game Club. This alliance of sportsmen and women will mark its 100th anniversary with a variety of speakers, activities, and 10-month standing display at the Otter Tail County Historical Museum.

WHEATON — A big first-half run allowed the West Central Area boys’ basketball team to run away with a 83-48 victory over the Wheaton Warriors Friday.

UNDERWOOD — The Underwood boys’ basketball team welcomed in Little Eight Conference foe Hillcrest Thursday. After a close first half of play, the visiting Comets gained the edge to pick up a 68-48 victory.

The M State men’s basketball team kicked off its MCAC Southern Division schedule at home against Anoka-Ramsey Community College Wednesday. The visiting Golden Rams would run away with the game in the second half as they defeated the Spartans 84-64.

On Saturday, Jan. 4 against the Ortonville Trojans, Underwood multisport athlete Kayla Rocholl made school history by becoming a member of the basketball team’s 1,000-point club, a select group of which older brother, Brady, is also a member.
