Battling Mother Nature and a difficult course, the Fergus Falls Otters girls golf team fired a total of 357, putting them in second place after day one of the 2022 Class AA State golf tournament. Lake City leads the way with a 330 and both Pequot Lakes and Providence Academy are in third with a 362.

Ana Jyrkas and Ellia Soydara both shot an 83 and are tied for ninth place individually. Olivia Jurgens shot a 95, Annie Mayer a 96, Ella Mayer a 99 and rounding out the Otters scoring, Lexi Metcalf 105.

“We know we have more in us than we showed on day one,” stated Otters coach Ben Jurgens. “Sitting in second place, we will have to play better to secure that place. Olivia’s 95 saved us four team strokes and really served as a bonus.”

Mallory Belka, of Perham, is the day one leader, coming in with 76.

The state golf tournament, being held in Jordan, wraps up on June 15.
