ALEXANDRIA — The Fergus Falls girls’ hockey team could not find an answer for rival Alexandria as the Cardinals claimed a 5-2 victory Tuesday.

The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead on a Mayson Tuft goal, but the Otters responded with a goal by Ellie Andersen with assists from Maddie Hulter and Chloe Nelson. Kaci Trosvig would put Alexandria on top 2-1 after the first.

Trosvig opened the second period with her second goal and teammate Lauren Maras tallied Alexandria’s fourth of the game.

In the final period, Lizzy Moxness recorded a goal for the Otters with an assist from Jadyn Bye, but another goal by Alexandria closed the door on the rally.

“The game was closer than three goals, if that makes any sense,” Otters head coach Tim Lill said. “The Otters fought hard once again. We are improving every game and will be dangerous come playoffs. Promise.”

The Otters will look to regroup as they travel to take on Sartell/Sauk Rapids-Rice at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
