The Ashby Arrows boys’ basketball team shot a bullseye defeating the visiting New York Mills Eagles 57-44 Thursday evening after dropping a close season opener to West Central Area 59-55 Tuesday.
Once again the Arrows had a strong showing from their trio of seniors which allowed them to go into halftime enjoying a 31-22 lead. After the break, it was more of the same as Ashby put the finishing touches on their victory over the Eagles led by senior Scott Johnson with 24 points, while the team’s two remaining seniors also had strong performances with Dakota Ecker leading the team in assists with five and Christian Norby notching a team-high five steals. Sophomore Jaden Norby showed a lot of maturity pulling down 14 rebounds to lead the team. The Arrows now up their record to 1-1.
“We played really good defense tonight,” Ashby Arrows head coach John Holsten said. “Our guys contested most of the shots and they did a really good job on a couple of New York Mills’ very good players.”
Next up for the Arrows is a road game against area rivals the Battle Lake Battlers, Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7:15 p.m.
