Ashby took the lead late in the game in a 13-2 victory over Sebeka on Monday. The game was 3-2 with the Arrows batting in the top of the fifth when Torin Olson tripled on a 0-2 count, scoring three runs.
Scott Johnson led the Arrows to victory by driving in five runs. He went 3-for-3 at the plate. Johnson drove in runs on a single in the first, a double in the second, and a double in the fifth.
Ashby Arrows Varsity fired up the offense in the first inning. Johnson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Christian Norby was the winning pitcher for Ashby Arrows Varsity. He went three innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out seven. Hunter Norby and Olson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Lake took the loss for Sebeka. He went two innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out three.
Ashby Arrows Varsity totaled 11 hits. Johnson, Norby, and Dakota Ecker all managed multiple hits for Ashby. Christian Norby and Johnson each collected three hits to lead Ashby.
“We came out and played better than I could have ever imagined for our first game and first time being outside,” Arrows head coach Jared Larson said. “We had terrific at bats and our pitchers attacked the zone. Torin could have hung his head with rough outing on the mound but he came up with a huge 2 out triple to extend the lead and give us some breathing room. I was very pleased with our effort today.”
