Hard to handle: West Central Area Knights girls’ volleyball player Halle Foslien zings one at Ashby’s Halle Dahlen during Monday’s matchup in Barrett.

BARRETT — The West Central Area volleyball team took to its home court Tuesday to take on the Ashby Arrows in the 2019 season opener. The Knights showed no rust as they swept through the Arrows 25-14, 25-20, 25-13.

“The Knights came out strong with a serving run right out of the gate by Kaleigh Anderson in Game 1 with six serves in a row,” Knights head coach Melissa Foslien said.

Anderson led the Knights from the service line going 19-20 with four aces. Anderson also had 18 digs. Emma Swenson led West Central with 23 digs in the win.

“First game jitters got us on the serving line and we took ourselves out of each with six or seven missed serves,” Arrows head coach Hayley Stevens said. “Hard to dig out of that hole and WCA was scrappy. Nice to have a game under our belt whether a win or lose to iron out some game time mistakes and to really get a feel for what flows on the court.”

Courtney Koefod led the Arrows in kills with seven and chipped in 12 digs. Amelia Barry led the team in digs with 13.

The Knights will now welcome in Frazee for a 7:30 p.m. tilt Thursday. The Arrows will return home as they look to rebound against Henning at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
