BATTLE LAKE —The Otter Tail Central football team stopped their opening day losing skid Saturday night as they handed the Barnesville Trojans a 35-14 loss.
he Bulldogs opened the game moving the chains, but a fumble inside the Trojans redzone on an exchange led to a stop by Barnesville. The visitor could not move the ball and punted it back. This time, OTC made good use of their possession as quarterback Tony Ukkelberg found Eric Van Erp wide open for a 49 yard catch and run for a touchdown. Ukkelberg added the extra point to give the home team a 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs went up 14-0 before the end of the first quarter as Cody Seedorf took the ball on a seven yard scoring jaunt.
OTC looked to strike again before the end of the half, but another fumble inside the 10 allowed Barnesville to escape to halftime down two touchdowns.
The Bulldogs opened the second half with a bang as Andrew Van Erp took the kick-off 80 yards for a score to give OTC a 21-0 lead. Van Erp’s number was called again as the Bulldogs next possession saw Ukkelberg find the speedy receiver for a 77-yard scoring strike.
Barnesville’s Josh Tweeton got the Trojans on the board as he sprung for an 39 yard touchdown run, but the host got the points back as Seedorf scooped and scored on a 40-yard fumble recovery as the third quarter expired.
With time waning, the Trojans added another touchdown as Brady Tweeton broke loose for a 21-yard run in the final quarter.
Ukkelberg commanded the air for the Bulldogs completing five of eight passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, while primary target Andrew Van Erp finished with three receptions for 86 yards and a score. Seedorf led the way on the ground with 73 yards on 16 carries.
The Bulldogs will be the home team again Friday as they host the Osakis Silverstreaks in Henning at 7 p.m.
