PELICAN RAPIDS — On Saturday, the Pelican Rapids volleyball team welcomed in five teams for their annual volleyball tournament. When the dust finally settled the Breckenridge Cowgirls claimed the tournament title.

The Pelican Rapids Vikings opened the day against the Rothsay Tigers. A strong back and forth battled between the two teams saw the end result as a split with the Tigers taking the first set 25-13 and the Vikings taking the second 25-22.

The Vikings rebounded in their second match as they upended the Hillcrest Comets 25-18, 25-19.

In Game 3, Pelican Rapids committed too many errors as the Battle Lake Battlers grabbed a 25-16, 25-17 victory.

In Game 4, the Vikings were unable to get their offense to click as Lake Park-Audubon picked up a 25-20, 26-24 two-set win.

In the final round, the Vikings would take on Breckenridge. The Cowgirls had yet to be defeated on the day and Pelican Rapids was ready for the matchup.

The Cowgirls avoided a 12-2 collapse in Set 1 after the Vikings Ryley Paulson had a long serving session to win 25-19. The second set saw the Cowgirls close out the matchup to take gold.

“Even though the Vikings lost the last set they ended the day stronger than they started,” Vikings head coach Heidi Isaman said. “I was really proud of the hard work these girls put in all day making more and more improvements each and every game.”

The Vikings will look to get back to their winning ways as they travel to take on West Central Area at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
