HENNING — The Otter Tail Central cross country teams welcomed in area teams to compete in their annual meet at Oakwood Golf Course Tuesday.
Wadena-Deer Creek (30) won the girls’ meet followed by Fergus Falls (50) and Otter Tail Central (55).
Leading the way for the Otters was Emily Nuss (21:48.86) with a second-place finish, while teammate Sierra Hatlewick (23:12.36) finished ninth overall. Ellia Soydara (12th, 24:02.38), Makenna Stenstrom (16th, 24:39.46) and Becca Schindler (19th, 24:54.36) completed the team scoring, while Miah Schmidt (25th, 26:33.49), Natalie Fransen (29th, 27:28.07), Mariah Fults (32nd, 28:15.69), Brooklyn Berge (33rd, 28:29.54), Emma Rund (44th, 30:48.57) and Phoenix Williams (53rd, 38:37) also took the course for Fergus Falls.
“Emily Nuss led the Otters with a great time,” Otter girls head coach Niki Welde said. “She found herself with a gap between the lead girls and the third-place girl. Being alone makes it hard to monitor your pace. She ran a solid race nonetheless.”
For OTC, Laney Frost (fifth, 22:20.49), Raenne Frost (eighth, 23:05.51) and Katie George (10th, 23:26.73) each finished in the top 10. Allyson Goodman (20th, 24:55.99) and Kyleigh Shebeck (21st, 24:57.32) rounded out the team scoring, and Elizabeth Radermacher (34th, 28:40.79) also competed for the Bulldogs.
Hillcrest’s Kyra Mortenson (47th, 31:27.45) also competed at the meet.
In the boys’ meet, Wadena-Deer Creek (32) won the event, followed by Otter Tail Central (59), Parkers Prairie (77) and Fergus Falls (80).
OTC placed three members in the top 10 including Cody Dolezal (third, 18:35.01), Isaac Scherfenber (fifth, 18:44.05) and Thomas Himmelspach (sixth, 18:50.76). Joseph Froslee (18th, 19:43.62) and Jacob Hite (33rd, 20:59.29) rounded out the team scoring, while Blake Alonso (34th, 21:15.03) and Noah Mansker (37th, 21:25.73) also competed in the meet.
Fergus Falls was led by Luke Schroeder (19:04.09) with a ninth-place finish. Conrad Lob (12th, 19:11.35), Joe Elberle (15th, 19:31.38), Mason Olson (26th, 20:37.43) and Kolsen Papon (28th, 20:45.64) completed the team scoring. Zach Lobb (36th, 21:25.45), Aiden Lindgren (38th, 21:27), Tucker Rowlan (39th, 21:27.60), Oliver Thorsen (49th, 22:35.22), Keisen Wick (68th, 26:49.64) and Isaac Job (69th, 29:40.76) also compete for the Otters at the meet.
“The weather was fantastic and favorable for running,” Otter boys’ head coach Derek Meyer said. “This meet is a quick turn around in our meet and training schedule. It is not a lot of rest between our last race. Our team as a whole performed well and competitive but had no personal records broken.”
