PERHAM — The Otter Tail Central boys’ golf team walked off Perham Lakeside Golf Course with the Section 6A title Thursday after shooting a 684 team score over the two-day event.
Pine River-Backus (695) finished in second, followed by Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Laporte (715) and Pelican Rapids (723).
The Bulldogs Jackson Nyhus led the team with a166, while Noah Chase (168), Drew Young (169) and Parker Fraki (183) rounded out the team scoring. Carter Dilly (193) and Nick Miller (197) also carded rounds for OTC.
Also advancing to the state meet were Hillcrest golfers John (165) and Mike Vall (168).
Other area golfers that competed in both days of the tournament include Hillcrest’s Joel Quam (183), Rothsay’s Wyatt Curtis (203) and Underwood’s Trevor Swonger (173) and Canaan Kugler (187).
Competing as a team, the Pelican Rapids boys’ team saw Logan Petznik (174) lead the way on the links. Rounding out the Vikings were Joe Stetz (183), Kirby Nelson (196), Noah Kapenga (202) and Levi Johnson (224).
“We have a very young team and I was proud of the way they played the past two days,” Rockets head coach Chuck Ross said. “They showed a lot of potential and the future looks pretty good with this group if they continue to practice and play throughout this summer. Trevor Swonger (173) had a strong two days and just missed qualifying for state by four strokes. Canaan Kugler (187) qualified for day two and played well all season. Logan Frigaard (97), Logan Johansen (106), Braden Thorson (109), and Bryce Jorgenson (133) got much better as the season progressed and have shown that they have a lot of promise. We are definitely looking forward to next year as they gained a lot of experience this season.”
The Bulldogs and individual qualifiers will now travel to Pebble Creek Golf Club to compete in the Class A State meet June 12-13.
