PELICAN RAPIDS —The hosting Pelican Rapids baseball team saw member Reggie Funk play hero for the Vikings as an RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning to upend the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs 7-6 Monday.

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead as Damien Britten knocked in a run in the bottom of the first. The Bulldogs battled back into the game, but Pelican Rapids would tie it at 3-3 after four innings.

The game looked to have swung toward OTC as they plated three runs in the seventh inning. Not to be outdone, Pelican Rapids responded in the home half with three of their own to send the game to extra innings. After sitting down the Bulldogs in the eighth, the Vikings saw Funk rip a 0-1 count into the gap for the game-winning hit.

Brock Sjolie picked up the win for the Vikings pitching two innings of relief, striking out three and allowing three runs on two hits. Dylan Trana then took the loss for Bulldogs giving up one run on two hits over two-thirds of an inning.

Hayden Christenson led the Vikings on offense as he went 4-for-4,  while teammates Liam Sytsma and Funk each collected multiple hits. Drake Larsen led the Bulldogs at the plate going 2-for-5.

The Vikings will close out their regular season with a home doubleheader against Heart O’Lakes Conference foe Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Bulldogs will look to rebound as they host Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale in a home doubleheader at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
