On to state:  Fergus Falls swimmer Emilie Carlson will compete in the Class A Minnesota State Girls’ Swimming and Diving Championships Nov. 15-16 after taking second in the 200 IM at the Section 8A meet.

Fergus Falls swimmer Emilie Carlson advanced to the Class A State Girls’ Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center after finishing as runner-up in the 200 IM at the Section 8A meet Saturday.

Carlson’s posted a time of 2:17.61, behind champion Jennifer Tracy (2:12.88) of Detroit Lakes. Carlson would also finish third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.28.

Other top finishes for the Otters at the meet were Emma Koeckeritz in the 100 backstroke (fifth, 1:06.55) and the 50 freestyle (seventh, 26.33), Lianna Jepson in the 100 backstroke (seventh, 1:07.81) and the 100 freestyle (seventh, 58.86), Aisling Cox in the 100 backstroke (eighth, 1:09.74) and Nori Donais in diving (12th, 273.80).

In the relay events, the 200 medley team of Koeckeritz, Carlson, Alanna Keller and Brinn Donais (1:58.76) took third, as did the 200 freestyle team of Carlson, Jepson, Koeckertiz and Brinn Donais (1:44.12). The 400 freestyle team of Cox, Jepson, Chloe Schindler and Ashley Swanson (4:40.28) finished in sixth.

The Otters (206) finished fifth overall with Grand Rapids (439) winning the title and Detroit Lakes (419) coming in second.

Otters head coach Joyce Monk was named co-Head Coach of the Year in the section, while the Otters received the Silver GPA award for having a team GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Carlson will now travel to the state meet at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center to compete Nov. 15-16.
