PELICAN RAPIDS — In a Heart O’Lakes Conference overtime thriller, the visiting Breckenridge Cowboys claimed a 79-74 victory over the Pelican Rapids boys’ basketball team Friday.
Those in attendance could tell the game would be closely contested and after the first half, the Cowboys held a slim 36-33 lead. With time expiring in the second half, Breckenridge clung tightly to a two-point lead but the Vikings McHale Korf was fouled shooting a three at the end of regulation. Korf missed the first free throw, but made the next two to tie the game 68-68 and force overtime.
In the overtime period, Breckenridge had enough gas left in the tank to outscore Pelican Rapids 11-6 and get the win.
Jayden Rutherford and Logan Fahje led the Vikings with 19 points apiece, while teammate Korf finished with 11.
The Vikings will look to get back on track as they travel to take on another HOL foe in Frazee at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
