Shin check: Hillcrest soccer player James Cho and Fergus Falls player Andrew Starzl try to out hustle one another during Monday’s game at Hillcrest.

The Fergus Fall boys’ soccer team snapped an eight-game losing skid Monday as the Otters defeated the Hillcrest Comets 2-1.

The Otters were able to build a 2-1 lead in the first half as Abdallah Abdallah and Jose Rodriguez each scored a goal for Fergus Falls. Neither team could find the back of the net in the second half as the game ended with the Otters holding a one-goal lead.

“It was great to get back in the win column tonight,” Otters head coach Steve Ness said. “We didn’t play our best second half, but kept Hillcrest from scoring.  Ian Stumbo had an incredible day in goal.  He was positioned well throughout the game and was leading from the back with his play and voice.”

The Otters will close out their home season Tuesday as it welcomes in Central Lakes Conference foe Rocori for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Comets will look to get back to their winning ways as they travel to take on Detroit Lakes at 7 p.m. Thursday.
